A total of 121 patients were enrolled in the study; 23 patients discontinued PEP prematurely for reasons other than adverse events. Aims: To analyze the clinical utility of FMZ PET to detect lesional and remote cortical areas of abnormal benzodiazepine receptor binding in relation to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), 2-Deoxy-2 [18F] fluoro-D-glucose, (18F FDG) PET, electrophysiological findings and semiology of epilepsy in patients with intractable TLE.
Materials And Methods: Patients underwent a high resolution MRI, prolonged Video-EEG monitoring before 18F FDG and 11C FMZ PET studies.
Objective: To study the role of different truncated core proteins (CORE) of hepatitis C virus (HCV) played in the pathogenesis of HCV persistent infection and hepatocellular carcinoma, and to construct seven different truncated prokaryotic expression plasmids of HCV CORE.
Methods: The gene sequences of different truncated HCV genotype 1b CORE were amplified from plasmids containing CORE sequences derived from tumor and non-tumor tissues of a patient infected with HCV. We have evaluated the in vitro autoradiographic binding characteristics and in vivo brain distribution of two high-affinity dopamine D2/D3 receptor agonists, (+/-)-2-(N-phenethyl-N-1'-11C-propyl)amino-5-hydroxytetralin (11C-PPHT) and (+/-)-2-(N-cyclohexylethyl-N-1'-11C-propyl)amino-5-hydroxytetralin (11C-ZYY-339) in rodents and in monkeys using positron emission tomography (PET). In vitro autoradiograms in rat brain slices with (11)C-PPHT and 11C-ZYY-339 revealed binding to dopaminergic regions in the striata, which was substantially (>90%) displaced by 10 microM sulpiride. Striatal binding was also removed in the presence of 5-guanylylimidophosphate (Gpp(NH)p), indicative of binding of these radiotracers to the high-affinity (HA) state.

Control and treated rats were trained in a T-maze to a particular side and then periodically tested to see how well they retained the learned response. Rats that had received aspartame (250 mg/kg/day) in the drinking water for 3 or 4 months showed a significant increase in time to reach the reward in the T-maze, suggesting a possible effect on memory due to the artificial sweetener.

Methods: We recorded demographic, clinical, disease outcome, and treatment variables in 92 consecutive RA patients who were not taking lipid-lowering or antidiabetic medications. Fasting blood tests were taken for determination of lipids, ultra sensitive C-reactive protein (CRP), rheumatoid factor, insulin, and glucose.
The goal of this work was to quantify the in vivo transport and binding parameters of [F-18]fallypride and the D2/D3 receptor density (B'max) in both the striatal (putamen, caudate, ventral striatum) and extrastriatal regions (thalamus, amygdala, cerebellum, temporal and frontal cortices) of the rhesus monkey brain. Multiple-injection PET experimental protocols with injections of radiolabeled and unlabeled doses of fallypride were used to estimate the K1, k2, kon/VR, koff and B'max kinetic parameters. The experimental design was chosen using the D-optimal criterion to maximize the precision of the estimated binding parameters for the various brain regions.

We retrospectively analyzed all patients with histologically proven gliomas, between the years 1990 and 2000, who underwent FDG PET studies at various stages of their treatment and who were followed till either death or for a minimum period of 1 year in an attempt to bring resolution to this controversy.
Methods: All PET scans prior to 1997 were acquired on an ECAT 951/31 scanner in 2D.
Purpose: The goal of this investigation was to evaluate uptake and incorporation of 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose (FDG), 11C-methionine, and 11C-choline in 17 patients suspected of grade-II and grade-III tumors using positron emission tomography (PET) and use in vitro astrocytoma cell lines in order to support in vivo findings.
Methods: Seventeen patients with suspected astrocytomas (9 grade-II and 8 grade-III) were studied by PET with FDG and 11C-methionine; and one patient (grade-III) with FDG, 11C-methionine and 11C-choline. Uptake of PET molecular imaging probe was quantitative based on tumor to corresponding contralateral-region uptake ratio, tumor to mean-cortical-uptake ratio, and tumor to white matter uptake ratio.
