SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Children Less Than Forty Days Hospitalized in Belgium Between 2020 and 2022.

Our study aimed to assess the severity of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection in hospitalized infants under 40 days old, across 21 Belgian hospitals between 2020 and 2022. Of the 365 infants studied, 14.2% needed respiratory support.

[Pediatric neuroborreliosis : diagnosis and treatment].

Neuroborreliosis is the second most frequent presentation of Lyme disease in children. Isolated facial palsy is the most classical manifestation of neuroborreliosis, but another clinical picture can be found in children: subacute meningitis, radiculoneuritis, or rarely severe neurological manifestations (transverse myelitis, encephalitis). Diagnosis and treatment guidelines of neuroborreliosis in children will be reviewed here.

COVID-19 in children and adolescents in Europe: a multinational, multicentre cohort study.

Background: To date, few data on paediatric COVID-19 have been published, and most reports originate from China. This study aimed to capture key data on children and adolescents with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection across Europe to inform physicians and health-care service planning during the ongoing pandemic.

Methods: This multicentre cohort study involved 82 participating health-care institutions across 25 European countries, using a well established research network-the Paediatric Tuberculosis Network European Trials Group (ptbnet)-that mainly comprises paediatric infectious diseases specialists and paediatric pulmonologists.

Non-invasive Quantification of Fat Deposits in Skeletal Muscle Predicts Cardiovascular Outcome in Kidney Failure.

Fat accumulation in skeletal muscle was recently established as a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the general population, but its relevance for patients with kidney failure is unknown. Here we examined the potential association between muscle radiation attenuation (MRA), a non-invasive indicator of fat deposits in muscle, and cardiovascular events in patients with kidney failure treated with peritoneal dialysis (PD) and investigated dynamic changes and determinants of MRA in this population. We retrospectively assessed MRA on computed tomography images collected yearly in 101 incident patients with kidney failure starting PD between January 2006 and December 2015.

[Coexistence of sickle cell disease and systemic lupus erythematosus].

Sickle cell disease and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are two distinct chronic conditions sharing many clinical manifestations. Coexisting of these two diseases is rare, but it is important to make the diagnosis of SLE in sickle cell patients to initiate appropriate treatment and limit the risk of complications. High titers of autoantibodies have been reported in sickle cell patients as well as a higher risk of immune deficiency.

Central Venous Pressure Drop After Hypovolemic Phlebotomy is a Strong Independent Predictor of Intraoperative Blood Loss During Liver Resection.

Background: Intraoperative hypovolemic phlebotomy (HP) has been suggested to reduce central venous pressure (CVP) before hepatectomy. This study aimed to analyze the impact of CVP drop after HP on intraoperative blood loss and postoperative renal function.

Methods: A retrospective review of a prospective database including 100 consecutive patients (43 males and 57 females; mean age, 65 years; range 23-89 years) undergoing liver resection with HP was performed.
