View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Proper catheter placement for convection-enhanced delivery (CED) is required to maximize tumor coverage and minimize exposure to healthy tissue. We developed an image-based model to patient-specifically optimize the catheter placement for rhenium-186 (Re)-nanoliposomes (RNL) delivery to treat recurrent glioblastoma (rGBM).
Methods: The model consists of the 1) fluid fields generated via catheter infusion, 2) dynamic transport of RNL, and 3) transforming RNL concentration to the SPECT signal.
Unlabelled: Rhenium-186 (Re) labeled nanoliposome (RNL) therapy for recurrent glioblastoma patients has shown promise to improve outcomes by locally delivering radiation to affected areas. To optimize the delivery of RNL, we have developed a framework to predict patient-specific response to RNL using image-guided mathematical models.
Methods: We calibrated a family of reaction-diffusion type models with multi-modality imaging data from ten patients (NCR01906385) to predict the spatio-temporal dynamics of each patient's tumor.
Immunotherapy has become a fourth pillar in the treatment of brain tumors and, when combined with radiation therapy, may improve patient outcomes and reduce the neurotoxicity. As with other combination therapies, the identification of a treatment schedule that maximizes the synergistic effect of radiation- and immune-therapy is a fundamental challenge. Mechanism-based mathematical modeling is one promising approach to systematically investigate therapeutic combinations to maximize positive outcomes within a rigorous framework.

Methods: Cancer patients (n = 1,210) completed a survey from August to September 2020 to assess COVID-19 pandemic-related changes in health behaviors and psychosocial factors.
Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted many facets of life. We evaluated pandemic-related health care experiences, COVID-19 prevention behaviors and measures, health behaviors, and psychosocial outcomes among rural and urban cancer patients.
Methods: Among 1,472 adult cancer patients, who visited Huntsman Cancer Institute in the past 4 years and completed a COVID-19 survey (August-September 2020), we assessed the impact of the pandemic on medical appointments, prevention/health behaviors, and psychosocial factors, stratified by urbanicity.
Communication of hydrologic data to the public can be improved by connecting data to the places they represent. In our example of data communication, we coupled hydrologic data with simultaneously collected video as both a scientific and public engagement tool. This note presents a method for collecting spatially and temporally dense datasets of water-quality and geophysical data on small streams and lakes, and for displaying the data in a user-friendly format using commercially available software.

Methods: The DP4 phantom was designed for single-use and imaged concurrently with a human subject so that the phantom data can be utilized as the reference to detect errors in qDCE-MRI measurement of human tissues. The change of contrast-agent concentration in the phantom was measured using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.
Patients with heart failure, including those with implanted left ventricular assist devices, continue to increase in number. When they require noncardiac surgery, cardiac critical care expertise may not be immediately available to assist. This review serves to provide surgeons and surgical intensivists with a brief overview of the management of this patient population and common clinical scenarios and complications.

Herein, biofilm formation, a general bacteria function, and riboflavin secretion, a species-specific function, were monitored in Shewanella oneidensis, a metal reducing bacterium, following exposure to a variety of TiO2 nanoparticle types (synthesized, Aeroxide P25, and T-Eco). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show that dosed nanoparticles are in close proximity to the bacteria, but they are not internalized.

We show here that the use of interdigitated electrodes on a single plane provides similar performance to these standard devices and geometries but without a external slant angle. This new device's structure also greatly improves the diffraction efficiency and sensitivity compared to less slanted standard devices necessary for some real applications, such as holographic displays, optical coherence imaging, and in-plane switching.

This sample exhibited larger two-beam coupling gain, higher diffraction efficiency at lower voltages, and an increased dielectric breakdown strength compared to a control sample. The dynamics also revealed the presence of a competing grating, and a bipolar charge transport model is shown to fit the data.
