Deep learning has proven highly effective in various medical imaging scenarios, yet the lack of an efficient distribution platform hinders developers from sharing models with end-users. Here, we describe brainchop, a fully functional web application that allows users to apply deep learning models developed with Python to local neuroimaging data from within their browser. While training artificial intelligence models is computationally expensive, applying existing models to neuroimaging data can be very fast; brainchop harnesses the end user's graphics card such that brain extraction, tissue segmentation, and regional parcellation require only seconds and avoids privacy issues that impact cloud-based solutions.

The biological properties of receptor-targeted peptides have made them popular diagnostic imaging and therapeutic agents. Typically, the synthesis of fluorine-18 radiolabeled receptor-targeted peptides for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging is a time consuming, complex, multi-step synthetic process that is highly variable based on the peptide. Milk is the largest source of iodine in UK diets and earlier studies showed organic summer and winter milk to be significantly lower in iodine than conventional milk. One study also showed UHT milk to have lower iodine concentration. The study on winter and UHT milk was small and accordingly a new study is reported here involving conventional, organic and UHT semi-skimmed milk from four supermarkets over a six-month period in summer and winter in two regions of the UK.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate if evidence-based clinical guidelines are implemented equitability among ethnic minority breast cancer patients using Medicare Advantage and investigate if presumed advantages of managed care over fee-for-service are greater for minorities than for Whites.

Methods: Data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results and Medicare were used to examine 70,755 women over age 65 diagnosed with early stage breast cancer between 2005 and 2009. Implementation of two clinical guidelines was assessed: receipt of radiation therapy after breast conserving surgery and estrogen receptor status documentation.

Little information exists on the effects of ensiling on condensed tannins or proanthocyanidins. The acetone-butanol-HCl assay is suitable for measuring proanthocyanidin contents in a wide range of samples, silages included, but provides limited information on proanthocyanidin composition, which is of interest for deciphering the relationships between tannins and their bioactivities in terms of animal nutrition or health. Degradation with benzyl mercaptan (thiolysis) provides information on proanthocyanidin composition, but proanthocyanidins in several sainfoin silages have proved resistant to thiolysis.

Studies with a diverse array of 22 purified condensed tannin (CT) samples from nine plant species demonstrated that procyanidin/prodelphinidin (PC/PD) and cis/trans-flavan-3-ol ratios can be appraised by (1)H-(13)C HSQC NMR spectroscopy. The method was developed from samples containing 44-∼100% CT, PC/PD ratios ranging from 0/100 to 99/1, and cis/trans ratios ranging from 58/42 to 95/5 as determined by thiolysis with benzyl mercaptan. Integration of cross-peak contours of H/C-6' signals from PC and of H/C-2',6' signals from PD yielded nuclei-adjusted estimates that were highly correlated with PC/PD ratios obtained by thiolysis (R(2) = 0.

We previously reported the identification and structure-activity analysis of bithiazole-based correctors of defective cellular processing of the cystic fibrosis-causing CFTR mutant, ΔF508-CFTR. Here, we report the synthesis and uptake of a functional, fluorescently labeled bithiazole corrector. Following synthesis and functional analysis of four bithiazole-fluorophore conjugates, we found that 5, a bithazole-based BODIPY conjugate, had low micromolar potency for correction of defective ΔF508-CFTR cellular misprocessing, with comparable efficacy to benchmark corrector corr-4a.

Excessive sleepiness (ES) is a major but underestimated public health concern associated with significant impairments in alertness/wakefulness and significant morbidity. The term ES has been used in the sleep medicine literature for years, but due to its nonspecific symptoms (ie tiredness or fatigue), it frequently goes unrecognized or is misdiagnosed in primary care. In some cases ES arises due to poor sleep habits or self-imposed sleep deprivation; however, ES is also a key component of a number of sleep/wake disorders and multiple medical and psychiatric disorders.
