The synchronization of dust acoustic waves to an external periodic source is studied in the framework of a driven Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation that takes into account the appropriate nonlinear and dispersive nature of low-frequency waves in a dusty plasma medium. For a spatiotemporally varying source term, the system is shown to demonstrate harmonic (1:1) and superharmonic (1:2) synchronized states. The existence domains of these states are delineated in the form of Arnold tongue diagrams in the parametric space of the forcing amplitude and forcing frequency and their resemblance to some past experimental results is discussed.

New Findings: What is the central question of the study? Can a novel, energy-dense and lightweight ketogenic bar (1000 kcal) consumed 3 h before exercise modulate steady-state incline rucksack march ('ruck') performance compared to isocaloric carbohydrate bars in recreationally active, college-aged men? What is the main finding and its importance? Acute ingestion of either nutritional bar sustained ∼1 h of exhaustive rucking with a 30% of body weight rucksack. This proof-of-concept study is the first to demonstrate that carbohydrate bars and lipid bars are equally feasible for preserving ruck performance. Novel ketogenic nutrition bars may have military-relevant applications to lessen carry load without compromising exercise capacity.

Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) expression is decreased in conditions associated with cognitive decline as well as metabolic diseases. One potential strategy to improve metabolic health and elevate BDNF is by increasing circulating ketones. Beta-Hydroxybutyrate (BHB) stimulates BDNF expression, but the association of circulating BHB and plasma BDNF in humans has not been widely studied.

Spacecraft data reveal a nonuniform ambipolar electric field transverse to the magnetic field in a thin current sheet in Earth's magnetotail that leads to intense E×B velocity shear and nongyrotropic particle distributions. The E×B drift far exceeds the diamagnetic drift and thus drives observed lower hybrid waves. The shear-driven waves are localized to the magnetic field reversal region and are therefore ideally suited for the anomalous dissipation necessary for reconnection.

Previous spacecraft studies showed that stormtime poloidal ultralow-frequency (ULF) waves in the ring current region have an antisymmetric (second harmonic) mode structure about the magnetic equator. This paper reports Van Allen Probes observations of symmetric ULF waves in the postnoon sector during a moderate geomagnetic storm. The mode structure is determined from the presence of purely compressional magnetic field oscillations at the equator accompanied by strong transverse electric field perturbations.

Plasma in the earth's magnetosphere is subjected to compression during geomagnetically active periods and relaxation in subsequent quiet times. Repeated compression and relaxation is the origin of much of the plasma dynamics and intermittency in the near-earth environment. An observable manifestation of compression is the thinning of the plasma sheet resulting in magnetic reconnection when the solar wind mass, energy, and momentum floods into the magnetosphere culminating in the spectacular auroral display.
