Following the COVID-19 infection, the sternum dislocation and wound dehiscence resulted in an infection complicating the recovery of an immunosuppressed patient after bilateral lung transplantation. Anaerobic culture (96 h) of milky cloudy wound secretion resulted in the growth of pinpoint haemolytic colonies identified as Metamycoplasma hominis (formerly Mycoplasma hominis). The search for the endogenous source of the infection found the bacterium exclusively in the patient's sputum, making a possible link to donor lung M.

Strategy of pulseless pink supracondylar humerus fracture treatment in children: a comparison of two approaches.

Purpose: The appropriate treatment of pulseless pink supracondylar humerus fractures (SCHF) remains controversial. In this study, the outcomes of two treatment approaches (with and without vascular surgery) were compared.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter study of patients with pulseless pink SCHFs treated in ten pediatric surgery, trauma, or orthopedics departments in the Czech and Slovak Republic between 2014 and 2018.

A case report of post-traumatic exogenous endophthalmitis caused by Nocardia farcinica, including treatment procedures, microbiology examination, and systemic medications. A 23-year-old male suffered a penetrating corneal injury that was treated with sutures. On the thirteenth day after the final suture was removed, an anterior uveitis developed and progressed to whitish, plump, nodular, and tufted exudates within the anterior chamber over the next 10 days; this led to an indication for intraocular surgery.

Invasive fungal disease represents one of the severe complications in haematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients. We describe a case of a patient treated for relapse of chronic lymphoblastic leukaemia 6 years after HSCT. The patient was treated for invasive pulmonary aspergillosis but died 3 months later from multiple organ failures consisting of haemorrhagic necrotizing fungal pneumonia, refractory chronic hepatic graft versus host disease and cytomegalovirus hepatitis.

Organization of Patient Management and Fungal Epidemiology in Cystic Fibrosis.

The achievement of a better life for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients is mainly caused by a better management and infection control over the last three decades. Herein, we want to summarize the cornerstones for an effective management of CF patients and to give an overview of the knowledge about the fungal epidemiology in this clinical context in Europe. Data from a retrospective analysis encompassing 66,616 samples from 3235 CF patients followed-up in 9 CF centers from different European countries are shown.

Objectives: Problems with importing non-registered medicines for treating rare life-threatening infectious diseases led to establishment of the Emergency Anti-Infective Drug Reserve (EAIDR) for the Czech Republic.

Methods: Thirteen anti-infective drugs are included in the project: antisera against rabies virus, varicella-zoster virus, and botulinum toxin; antituberculosis drugs (intravenous rifampicin and isoniazid; capreomycin, cycloserine, and clofazimine); antiparasitics (intravenous quinine, primaquine, meglumine antimoniate, and praziquantel); and pentamidine. These drugs are imported according to the Czech drug legislation (specific drug availability programs).

Invasive fungal diseases are severe complication of the lung transplant patients' follow-up as they are increasing the risk of rejection. We report a patient who developed possible Tyromyces fissilis co-infection during graft rejection episode 2 years after bilateral lung transplantation for cystic fibrosis. Post-mortem analysis of Candida albicans breakthrough infection during echinocandin treatment in haematopoietic stem cell transplant recipient.

We present case of a girl deceased due to Candida albicans breakthrough invasive infection during the echinocandin treatment after undergoing allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant for relaps of acute myeloid leukaemia. Candida albicans generally susceptible to all antifungal drugs wasn't considered for potential resistance and conventional blood culture positivity was too late to reveal the resistance to echinocandins. Due to severe organ toxicities (liver, kidneys) she received echinocandin as an antifungal prophylaxis, no change was made for the treatment of Candida albicans infection.

[Invasive mucormycosis in pediatric hematology patients--single-center experience from 2005-2010].

Background: Mucormycosis is an invasive fungal disease severely complicating treatment of patients with hematologic diseases. Effective therapy is represented by the combination of surgery and amphotericin B administration and early initiation of the therapy is necessary for favorable outcome. The first clinical symptoms are usually non-specific and this can lead to late therapy onset.

[Invasive candidiasis in selected heamatology departments in the Czech Republic and Slovakia - microbiological results of the CAN CELL project].

Background: The aim of our study was to analyze the spectrum and characteristic of invasive candidiasis in selected haematological departments in the Czech and Slovak Republics, and to compare minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of some antifungal agents for isolates obtained.

Material And Methods: Between 1 March 2009 and 31 October 2010, Candida strains from clinically important material obtained from patients with haematological malignancies were collected. Each isolate was biochemically identified and tested for in vitro susceptibility to three known echinocandins and amphotericin B and selected azoles using the E-test.
