Thermal tolerance, supercooling point, water balance and osmoregulatory ability of Pringleophaga marioni Viette (Lepidoptera: Tineidae) are investigated in this study. Field-fresh larvae had a mean CT(Min) (cold stupor) of -0.6 degrees C and a mean CT(Max) (heat coma) of 38.

Whole-organism oxygen uptake rate and its temperature sensitivity (determined using regression analyses and estimates of Q10) were examined in six closely related weevil species (Palirhoeus eatoni, Bothrometopus randi, Bothrometopus elongatus, Bothrometopus parvulus, Ectemnorhinus similis, and Ectemnorhinus marioni) from sub-Antarctic Marion Island over a short time period and using the same methods. Bothrometopus elongatus, B. parvulus, and the two Ectemnorhinus species have populations at both high and low elevations, and pairwise comparisons of these species were made.

We report our experience using matched and mismatched unrelated donor BMT for JCML in five patients. Although the procedure is hazardous in terms of toxicity and relapse, two patients are alive and disease-free 28 and 49 months post BMT.

This has led to a reduction in the peat moisture content of mires and higher growing season "warmth". The temperature-and moisture-sensitive sedge, Uncinia compacta R.

Ten patients with newly diagnosed haematological malignancy were given ofloxacin, 400 mg daily orally, for antibacterial prophylaxis during neutropenia. Before cytotoxic chemotherapy was given, and on three occasions between days 2-3, 5-7 and 8-10 afterwards, blood samples were taken before and 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 10 h after administration of ofloxacin. Serum ofloxacin concentrations were measured by HPLC.

We report a case of repeated acremonium fungaemia in a neutropenic patient, probably associated with a Hickman line. Fungaemia was accompanied by fever and a papular skin rash, both of which appeared to resolve when the neutrophil count recovered without antifungal chemotherapy, only to return when the patient next became neutropenic.

Approximately 30 percent of the British students (N = 71) and 50 percent of the Canadian students (N = 124) expressed a belief in a just world. In both groups, just world believers blamed elderly people for being in poor health or financial circumstances, and the Canadian just world believers also tended to dismiss the needs of elderly people for the convenience of society.
