Intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation is the primary risk factor and currently the main treatable factor for progression of glaucomatous optic neuropathy. In addition to direct clinical and living animal in vivo studies, ex vivo perfusion of anterior segments and whole eyes is a key technique for studying conventional outflow function as it is responsible for IOP regulation. We present well-tested experimental details, protocols, considerations, advantages, and limitations of several ex vivo model systems for studying IOP regulation.

Compared to the Western diet, the Mediterranean diet has many known benefits for both mental health and physical health; however, little is known about the effect of these dietary patterns on perceived stress and mental distress. Understanding the dynamics of photogenerated charge carriers is essential for enhancing the performance of solar and optoelectronic devices. Using atomistic quantum dynamics simulations, we demonstrate that a short π-conjugated optically active template can be used to control hot carrier relaxation, charge carrier separation, and carrier recombination in light-harvesting porphyrin nanorings. Relaxation of hot holes is slowed by 60% with an optically active template compared to that with an analogous optically inactive template.

Background And Aim: We assessed the anatomical variations in coronary arterial patterns relative to the techniques of reimplantation in the setting of the arterial switch operation, relating the variations to influences on outcomes.

Classical bonding is predominantly understood using the insipid sp hybridization for σ-bonds as well as π bonds and their delocalized variants. Because hybridization ignores intricate differences in the energy and size of valence atomic orbitals, its naïve application to classically bonded boron atoms leads to numerous surprises in bond strengths, frontier MOs/bands, and even geometry. Here we show that the sp dissonance caused by size mismatch between the valence s and p orbitals of boron plays a crucial role in its bonding, subtly distinct from that of carbon and silicon.
