We report the properties of a unique colour centre in mechanochemically synthesized inverse perovskite BaLiF submicron crystals that are luminescent at ∼765 nm. The spin-forbidden luminescence with a lifetime of 5 ms is attributed to a F (F-centre aggregate) in the fluoride octahedra, with three fluoride anion vacancies (3F) filled with two electrons (2e). The Zeeman splitting of the electronic origin and its temperature dependence indicate that the transition is from a singlet excited state to a triplet ground state.

Introduction: The WHO's Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) algorithm for diagnosis of child pneumonia relies on counting respiratory rate and observing respiratory distress to diagnose childhood pneumonia. IMCI case defination for pneumonia performs with high sensitivity but low specificity, leading to overdiagnosis of child pneumonia and unnecessary antibiotic use. Introduction: Women experience high rates of depression, particularly during pregnancy and the postpartum periods. Using population-based data from Bangladesh and Pakistan, we estimated the burden of antenatal depression, its risk factors, and its effect on preterm birth.

Methods: The study uses the following data: maternal depression measured between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation using the 9-question Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9); data on pregnancy including an ultrasound before 19 weeks of gestation; data on pregnancy outcomes; and data on woman's age, education, parity, weight, height, history of previous illness, prior miscarriage, stillbirth, husband's education, and household socioeconomic data collected during early pregnancy.

Unlike several other tumor types, prostate cancer rarely responds to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB). To define tumor cell intrinsic factors that contribute to prostate cancer progression and resistance to ICB, we analyzed prostate cancer epithelial cells from castration-sensitive and -resistant samples using implanted tumors, cell lines, transgenic models and human tissue. We found that castration resulted in increased expression of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and its probable murine homolog Cxcl15 in prostate epithelial cells.

This study reports the removal of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water using various photocatalytic and photochemical processes. PFAS were chosen, based on chain lengths, functional groups, and structural properties: four perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs), including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), three perfluorosulfonic acids (PFSAs), including perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer (GenX), and 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FTS), and dependency of the photocatalytic decomposition of PFAS on their properties was investigated. Oxidants and reductants were introduced to study the photochemical decomposition of PFAS, and reactive species and reaction byproducts were identified to elucidate the decomposition mechanism of PFAS.
