Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether a single-use negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) system achieves individualized goals of therapy when used to treat patients with a variety of wound types.
Design: Multiple case series.
Subjects And Setting: The same comprised 25 participants; their mean age was 51.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis to determine if irrigation of breast implant pockets with antibiotics reduces the rate of capsular contracture (CC). Capsular contracture is the most common complication after primary augmentation mammoplasty, yet its etiology remains cryptogenic.
Methods: PubMed was searched for publications from January 1 of 2000 through October of 2015.
Mouse antithymocyte globulin (mATG) prevents, as well as reverses, type 1 diabetes in NOD mice, through mechanisms involving modulation of the immunoregulatory activities of T lymphocytes. Dendritic cells (DC) play a pivotal role in the generation of T cell responses, including those relevant to the autoreactive T cells enabling type 1 diabetes. As Abs against DC are likely generated during production of mATG, we examined the impact of this preparation on the phenotype and function of DC to elucidate novel mechanisms underlying its beneficial activities.

Stromal cells exert immunoregulatory effects on dendritic and T cells, both of which are important in the pathophysiology of immune-mediated kidney injury. We hypothesized that similar cells with immunoregulatory function exist within the adult kidney.

IRI occurs during all deceased donor organ transplants. IRI is a highly complex cascade of events that includes interactions between vascular endothelium, interstitial compartments, circulating cells, and numerous biochemical entities.

Methods: All patients undergoing coronary artery surgery alone over a 3-year period with disease of more than one coronary artery were considered for complete arterial revascularization. Preoperatively, all patients had an Allen's test on the dominant arm and a cutoff point of 10 seconds was used.

We analyzed the relationship between viral drug resistance and causes of death in 29 HIV-1-infected patients who had been followed in an HIV-outpatient clinic and died in 1999. Six patients (21%) died with plasma HIV-RNA levels <1000 copies/ml. Seven (24%) died with wild-type (WT) virus in plasma, 6 (21%) had reverse transcriptase (RT) mutations only, 10 (34%) had multidrug-resistant (MDR) virus.

The number of annual deaths decreased progressively, from 112 in 1995 to 32 in 1999. The median final CD4(+) cell count before death increased progressively from 10 cells/microL in 1995 to 90 cells/microL in 1999 (P<.

In mice that have intestinal colonization with vancomycin-resistant enterococci, these agents promote high-density colonization, whereas antibiotics with minimal antianaerobic activity do not.
Methods: We conducted a seven-month prospective study of 51 patients who were colonized with vancomycin-resistant enterococci, as evidenced by the presence of the bacteria in stool.
Recently published guidelines permit the decision to treat patients with community-acquired pneumonia on an outpatient basis to be made more confidently than in the past. In most cases, the risk of 30-day mortality can be evaluated without extensive laboratory testing. Antibiotic therapy with erythromycin or doxycycline is generally effective.
