Ursolic acid (3-hydroxy-urs-12-ene-28-oic acid, UA) is a pentacyclic triterpene present in numerous plants, fruits and herbs and exhibits various pharmacological effects. However, UA has limited clinical applicability since it is classified as BCS class IV molecule, characterized by low solubility, low oral bioavailability and low permeability. In the present study, UA was isolated from the biomass marc of Lavandula angustifolia and was structurally modified by an induction of indole ring at the C-3 position and amide group at the C-17 position with the aim to enhance its pharmacological potential.

Introduction Effective postoperative analgesia following lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) is crucial for promoting surgical recovery and fostering maternal-neonatal bonding. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of two IV dexamethasone doses (8 mg and 4 mg) in managing postoperative pain in LSCS patients. The objective was to assess whether the 4 mg dose provides comparable pain relief to the 8 mg dose, with the goal of identifying the optimal dosage for effective pain management with minimal side effects.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). We aimed to analyze the risk factors, clinical presentations, evaluation and management strategies as well as outcomes of adult pulmonary thromboembolism cases at a tertiary care center.

Methods: In a retrospective observational study, all consecutive adult pulmonary thromboembolism cases admitted from January 2019 to September 2020 at our center were enrolled in this study.

Background: The evaluation of mediastinal lymphadenopathy and masses poses a diagnostic challenge because of a myriad of possible etiologic causes; their proximity to numerous vital structures and the difficulty of access for biopsy. Computed tomography is an excellent modality for the initial evaluation of mediastinal lymph nodes (LNs). Tissue diagnosis is of paramount importance to confirm the diagnosis of mediastinal lymphadenopathy.

Targeting nuclear mechanics is emerging as a promising therapeutic strategy for sensitizing cancer cells to immunotherapy. Inhibition of the mechano-sensory kinase ATR leads to mechanical vulnerability of cancer cells, causing nuclear envelope softness and collapse and activation of the cGAS-STING-mediated innate immune response. Finding novel compounds that interfere with the non-canonical role of ATR in controlling nuclear mechanics presents an intriguing therapeutic opportunity.

Background: The education levels of females have been found to aid in the early detection of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in mitigating the long-term consequences of PCOS. Nursing students are poised to become the next generation of healthcare professionals, equipped with valuable knowledge that can be utilized to increase awareness among their peers and patients, particularly about this critical subject matter.

In this study, the rhombohedral crystalline pure phase BiFeO (BFO) of irregularly shaped spherical particles of ≈100 nm and energy bandgap of ≈2.31 eV are synthesized by sol-gel auto-combustion method and explored as electrode material for photo-assisted supercapacitor. The electronic structure studies revealed that the coexistence of heterovalent Bi and Fe elements accelerated the electrochemical redox kinetics and photo-assisted charge storage properties.

Tunable redox-sensitive polymeric-lipid hybrid nanocarriers (RS-PLHNCs) were fabricated using homogenization and nanoprecipitation methods. These nanocarriers were composed of novel redox-cholesterol with disulfide linkages and synthesized by conjugating cholesterol with dithiodipropionic acid esterification. Berberine (BBR) was loaded into the fabricated nanocarriers to investigate the selective uptake of BBR by cancer cells as well as its release and enhanced cytotoxicity.

Quantum phenomena in two-dimensional Kagome materials lead to exotic topological states and complex magnetism. Here, we have investigated the detailed electronic properties of Co1-xFeSn as a function of composition () to explore the competing electronic interactions for the origin of complex magnetism and topological properties. We find that the screening effect in the valence electrons increases while the correlation effect decreases with an increase in the Fe doping.

Article Synopsis
  • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can rarely lead to acute pericarditis, which may present soon after the procedure or after a delay, often depending on complications.
  • A case study involved a 54-year-old man who experienced chest pain following urgent PCI for a myocardial infarction, initially misdiagnosed as reinfarction.
  • The correct diagnosis of acute pericarditis was confirmed through ECG changes and echocardiography, leading to effective treatment, highlighting the need for careful monitoring and awareness of this condition in PCI patients.

Background: A cluster of metabolic indicators responsible to elevate the risk of high blood sugar, heart diseases along with stroke is called metabolic syndrome (MetS). Adipokines play critical roles in the formation and progression of these clusters of diseases. Adiponectin enhances fatty acid oxidation, prevents foam cell formation and improves lipid metabolism.

Hall effects, including anomalous and topological types, in correlated ferromagnetic oxides provide an intriguing framework to investigate emergent phenomena arising from the interaction between spin-orbit coupling and magnetic fields. SrRuOis a widely studied itinerant ferromagnetic system with intriguing electronic and magnetic characteristics. The electronic transport of SrRuOis highly susceptible to the defects (O/Ru vacancy, chemical doping, ion implantation), and interfacial strain.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell products, classified as Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), have shown promising outcomes in cancer immunotherapy. The quality of raw and starting materials used in manufacturing is critical to ensure the efficacy and safety of CAR-T cell products and depends primarily on the selection of the right materials and the right suppliers. It is essential to consider a long-term strategy when selecting raw and starting materials to prevent delays in the supply of innovative, high-quality, and safe therapies to patients.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that is the fifth most common cause of mortality worldwide and the second most common cause of death in developed countries. The etiology of AD remains poorly understood; however, it is correlated with the accumulation of proteins in the brain, ultimately leading to cellular damage. Multiple factors, including genetic and environmental factors such as chemicals or food, have been linked to protein aggregation and cell death in AD.
