Lissencephaly with cerebellar hypoplasia (LCH) is a rare variant form of lissencephaly, its distinctive neuroradiological phenotype being an important investigation clue regarding the potential involved genes, including variants in RELN gene. We report on a case of LCH whose clinical and neuroradiological features led to the identification of a homozygous pathogenic variant in RELN gene that has not been previously reported in the scientific literature.

Objective: Our objective was to study the relationship between epilepsy and autoimmune diseases in two different types of epilepsy: idiopathic generalized epilepsies (IGEs) and mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (MTLE-HS). The contribution of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system to this relationship was analyzed.
Methods: Adult patients with IGEs and MTLE-HS at a tertiary epilepsy center were consecutively enrolled between January 2016 and December 2020.
Introduction: Exit-site infection (ESi) prevention is a key factor in lowering the risk of peritonitis. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between exit-site (ES) care protocols and the annual incidence rates of ESi and peritonitis in Portugal.
Methods: We performed a national survey using two questionnaires: one about the incidence of catheter-related infections and the other characterizing patients' education and ES care protocols.
Introduction: Epilepsy is more prevalent in men but Genetic Generalized Epilepsies (GGE) seem to be more common in women. A predominant maternal inheritance has been previously described in GGE. Increased levels of L-2-hydroxyglutaric acid in body fluids proved the diagnosis of L-2-HGA in all 21 patients. We analyzed the L-2-HGA gene (L2HGDH), recently found to be mutated in consanguineous families with L-2-HGA, and identified seven novel mutations in 15 families.

They are often difficult to classify in clinical terms, except for Friedreich ataxia, ataxia-telangiectasia, and a relatively small group of rare conditions for which the molecular basis has already been defined.
Objectives: To study the clinical presentation and to define diagnostic criteria in a group of Portuguese patients with ataxia and ocular apraxia, an autosomal recessive form without the essential clinical and laboratory features of ataxia-telangiectasia.
Background: Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are a heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive and predominant spasticity of the lower limbs, in which dominant, recessive, and X-linked forms have been described. While autosomal dominant HSP has been extensively studied, autosomal recessive HSP is less well known and is considered a rare condition.
Objective: To analyze the clinical presentation in a large group of patients with autosomal recessive HSP from Portugal and Algeria to define homogeneous groups that could serve as a guide for future molecular studies.
