Characteristics of length of stay and cardiovascular pharmacotherapy advice among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) increases the global disease burden due to its diverse adverse health effects on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. This study aimed to elucidate the potential indicators of length of stay (LOS) and pharmacotherapy advice among COPD patients. Thereafter, hospitalized COPD patients with clinical records and respiratory and cardiovascular pharmacotherapy advice were retrospectively collected from a tertiary hospital between April 2017 and September 2020, and the determinants of LOS and cardiovascular pharmacotherapy advice were explored using regression analyses.

The role of hydrogen sulfide in gastric mucosal damage.

Gastrointestinal disease is a major global threat to public health. In the past few decades, numerous studies have focuses on the application of small molecule gases in the disease treatment. Increasing evidence has shown that hydrogen sulfide (HS) has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects, and can regulate gastric mucosal blood flow in the gastric mucosa.

Interleukin-33 (IL-33) is closely related to the regulation of immunological cells, and its receptor ST2 is a member of the interleukin-1 (IL-1) receptor family. Inflammatory responses play critical roles in neuronal damage and white matter injury (WMI) post intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). In this study, we tried to explore the role of IL-33 in neuronal damage and WMI after ICH and the underlying mechanisms.

Potential application value of xenon in stroke treatment.

Stroke is an acute disease with extremely high mortality and disability, including ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Currently only limited drugs and treatments have been shown to have neuroprotective effects in stroke. As a medical gas, xenon has been proven to have neuroprotective effect in considerable amount of previous study.

Background: Recent studies showed inconsistent results of bevacizumab combined with chemotherapy vs single-agent therapy in terms of their safety and efficacy for the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to explore the value of bevacizumab combined with chemotherapy and single-agent therapy in recurrent glioblastoma treatment.

Methods: Databases such as MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to the topic of bevacizumab combined with chemotherapy and single-agent therapy as treatments for recurrent glioblastoma from January 1980 to April 2018.

Background: Craniopharyngioma is a kind of intracranial benign tumor that is primarily treated with surgery. At present, a variety of surgical approaches are used for tumor resection. We have conducted a comparative analysis of the two approaches most used in our department.

Comparison between modified lateral supraorbital approach and pterional approach in the surgical treatment of middle cerebral artery aneurysms.

Background: The Middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysm is a common type of craniocerebral aneurysm that is prone to rupture and high mortality. The classic surgical approaches are the Pterional approach and the Lateral Supraorbital (LSO) approach, but there are shortcomings.

Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed clinical and imaging data from 181 patients with MCA aneurysm clipping in the Department of Neurosurgery, First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University between 2011 and 2017.
