Hydrophilic modification of polymer surfaces is crucial for the emerging flotation separation of plastic waste towards resources recycling. In this study, we investigated a novel hydrophilic regulation induced by calcite to modify the surface wettability of PVC, ABS, PS, PC, and PET. The interactions between calcite and plastic molecules contributed to the selective formation of hydrophilic calcite shells on plastic surfaces.

Antibiotics in water will cause serious harm to human health and ecosystem. Carbon-based materials and transition metals activated peroxodisulfate (PDS) to produce active species, which can degrade residual antibiotics in water. In this paper, Cu/CNF (carbon nanofibers) composites were first prepared by introducing Cu into CNF using electrostatic spinning technology, which was used to activate PDS to degrade tetracycline (TC).

With the rapid growth of the metallurgical industry, there is a significant increase in the production of metallurgical slags. The waste slags pose significant challenges for their disposal because of complex compositions, low utilization rates, and environmental toxicity. One promising approach is to utilize metallurgical slags as catalysts for treatment of refractory organic pollutants in wastewater through advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), achieving the objective of "treating waste with waste".

Two phosphorus (P)-rich biowastes, sewage sludge (SS) and bone dreg (BD), were selected to clarify P footprints among biowaste, biochar, soil, and plants by introducing a novel "" concept model. Results showed that pyrolysis resulted in P transformation from an unstable-organic amorphous phase to a stable-inorganic crystalline phase with a P retention rate of 70-90% in biochar (). In soil, SSBC released more P in acid red soil and alkaline yellow soil than BDBC, while the opposite result appeared in neutral paddy soil.

The escalating global concern on phthalate esters (PAEs) stems from their status as emerging contaminants, marked by their toxicity and their potential to harm both the environment and human health. Consequently, this study aimed to evaluate the occurrence, spatial distribution, and ecological and health risks associated with PAEs in the Atoyac River, an urban waterway in central Mexico that receives untreated and poorly treated urban and industrial wastewater. Of the 14 PAEs analyzed in surface water samples collected along the river mainstream, nine were detected and quantified by GC-MS.

Antibiotics, a kind of containments with the properties of widely distributed and difficult to degrade, has aroused extensive attention in the world. As a prevalent agricultural waste, straws can be utilized to prepare biochar (straw-derived biochar, SBC) to remove antibiotics from aquatic environment. To date, although a number of review papers have summarized and discussed research on biochar application in wastewater treatment and soil remediation, there are few reviews on SBC for antibiotic removal.
