Senescence is an irreversible growth arrest which can be triggered by stresses such as oxidative reaction, telomere shortening, DNA damage, or oncogene signaling. Oxidative stress accelerates vascular endothelial cell senescence, and may promote atherosclerosis in humans. Interleukin-8 (IL-8) has been shown to play an important role in tumor growth, angiogenesis, and metastasis, and has close relationship with oxidative stress.
