Background: Inappropriate prescribing of medications and polypharmacy among older adults are associated with a wide range of adverse outcomes. It is critical to understand the attitudes towards deprescribing-reducing the use of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs)-among this vulnerable group. Such information is particularly lacking in low - and middle-income countries.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze how obesity (OB) correlates with osteoporosis (OP) while considering the effects of body weight and fat-free mass (FFM) in older adults.
  • Researchers evaluated 3,749 Chinese participants aged 65 and older, measuring obesity indices and bone mineral density (BMD) using linear regression.
  • Initially, obesity indices showed a strong positive link to BMD without adjustments, but after adjusting for weight, the associations became mostly negative, whereas adjusting for FFM still indicated a positive relationship, though weaker than before.
