This study developed the first machine learning model for individualized prediction of periprosthetic joint infection following primary total knee arthroplasty in this demographic.

There does not exist any previous comprehensive review on AI ethics in child health or any guidelines for management, unlike in adult medicine. This review describes ethical principles in AI for child health and provides recommendations for child-centered medical AI. We also introduce the Pediatrics EthicAl Recommendations List for AI (PEARL-AI) framework for clinicians and AI developers to ensure ethical AI enabled systems in healthcare for children.

Nanoscale imaging of whole vertebrates is essential for the systematic understanding of human diseases, yet this goal has not yet been achieved. Expansion microscopy (ExM) is an attractive option for accomplishing this aim; however, the expansion of even mouse embryos at mid- and late-developmental stages, which have fewer calcified body parts than adult mice, is yet to be demonstrated due to the challenges of expanding calcified tissues. Here, we introduce a state-of-the-art ExM technique, termed whole-body ExM, that utilizes cyclic digestion.

Purpose: To describe the appearance of a novel optical coherence tomography (OCT) feature in polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy and report its prevalence in a clinical cohort.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the OCT and indocyanine green angiography images of eyes with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. Main outcome measures included the appearance, prevalence, and longitudinal changes of "optically empty subretinal pigment epithelium (RPE) structures" on OCT and correlate them with indocyanine green angiography and OCT angiography.

Impact of Multistage Cannula on Recirculation in Various Venovenous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Cannulation Strategies.

We aimed to compare recirculation of venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-V ECMO) administered with various cannula placements for femoro-femoral (F-F) and femoro-jugular (F-J) configurations in patients with respiratory failure. This single-center retrospective study included 58 consecutive patients who underwent V-V ECMO between January 2021 and December 2023. Ultrasonic dilution technology was used to quantify the flow of recirculation.

Associations of fetal and postnatal growth trajectories with child cognition: the GUSTO cohort study.

Background: Using longitudinal ultrasounds as an improved fetal growth marker, we aimed to investigate if increased postnatal growth following fetal abdominal circumference (AC) growth deceleration is associated with improved child cognition.

Methods: Among 797 term-born singletons in the Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) cohort, we derived 2nd-3rd trimester fetal AC growth z-score, fetal AC growth deceleration, standardized height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) growth at early infancy (0-4 months), late infancy (4-15 months), toddlerhood (15-37 months), and early childhood (3-7 years), and investigated their associations with intelligence quotient (IQ) at ages 4.5 years (verbal, non-verbal) and 7 years (non-verbal-block design, matrix reasoning), adjusting for socio-demographic and biological confounders.

Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose can induce liver injury and is generally accompanied by disruption of bile acid homeostasis. Physiologically, sodium taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide (NTCP) participates in the uptake of bile acids from portal blood into hepatocytes to maintain enterohepatic recirculation but its role in APAP-induced hepatotoxicity is unclear. Wild-type (WT) C57BL/6J and NTCP knockout (KO) mice were injected with 400mg/kg APAP and liver injury was evaluated by serum biochemical markers and histologic evaluation.

Background: The association between childhood obesity and language development may be confounded by socio-environmental factors and attributed to comorbid pathways.

Methods: In a longitudinal Singaporean mother-offspring cohort, we leveraged trans-ancestry polygenic predictions of body mass index (BMI) to interrogate the causal effects of early-life BMI on child language development and its effects on molecular and neuroimaging measures. Leveraging large genome-wide association studies, we examined whether the link between obesity and language development is causal or due to a shared genetic basis.
