Matridex(R) is an injectable skin filler that's composed of a mixture of cross linked hyaluronic acid and dextranomer particles, and it was recently developed for soft tissue augmentation. To the best of our knowledge, there have been few previous reports on complications associated with Matridex. We report here on a delayed inflammatory reaction to an injection of Matridex in the glabellar fold, and this developed five weeks after the injection and it lasted more than a year.

Therefore, clinicians should keep scabies in mind in their differential diagnosis in a child who presents with severe pruritic, polymorphic skin lesions. Regarding the treatment of scabies, the reported clinical experience with gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane) in young children is quite limited because of its neurotoxicity.

Objective: Our purpose was to determine the effects of 2 different doses of dietary beta-carotene on wrinkles and elasticity, procollagen gene expression and ultraviolet (UV)-induced DNA damage in human skin.
Methods: Thirty healthy female subjects over the age of 50 years were randomized and received 2 different doses (30 and 90 mg/day) of beta-carotene for 90 days.
Importance Of The Field: Adipose tissue is one of the richest sources of mesenchymal stem cells. Even more interesting is the fact that adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) show an outstanding ability to regenerate damaged skin. Thus, ASCs are a popular and feasible treatment in clinical dermatology.

Yet, no controlled human study has explored its effects on photoaged skin. This study determined whether long-term intake of a red ginseng extract-containing Torilus fructus and Corni fructus mixture reduces facial wrinkles and increases collagen synthesis in human skin.

A 63-year-old Korean woman presented at our hospital with fever, hepatosplenomegaly, axillary lymphadenopathy, and generalized erythrodermic eruption. The bone marrow biopsy findings were consistent with the diagnosis of HLH, and EBV DNA was detected using the polymerase chain reaction.

Methods: ASCs were isolated from human subcutaneous adipose tissue.

Mesenchymal stem cells within the stromal-vascular fraction of subcutaneous adipose tissue (i.e., adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs)), have been used for tissue engineering.

Fractional photothermolysis (FP) has been reported to be effective for the treatment of melasma, despite small study populations and short follow-up periods.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of FP for the treatment of melasma in Asians.
Previous studies have shown that topical steroid and shampoo containing zinc pyrithione provide clinical benefits for treatment of scalp seborrheic dermatitis. But the clinical efficacy of topical tacrolimus, a newly developed calcineurin inhibitor on seborrheic dermatitis, is not well investigated yet. We wanted to compare the clinical efficacy of topical tacrolimus with that of conventional treatment (zinc pyrithione shampoo and topical betamethasone) for treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAneurysmal benign fibrous histiocytoma is an uncommon pathologic variant of dermatofibroma. In addition to the features of a typical dermatofibroma, it has large cleft-like or cavernous blood-filled spaces with numerous hemosiderin pigments. It should be differentiated from angiomatoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma, malignant melanoma, and vascular tumors such as Kaposi's sarcoma and angiosarcoma.

Objective: We wanted to determine whether dietary aloe vera gel has anti-aging properties on the skin.
Methods: Thirty healthy female subjects over the age of 45 were recruited and they received 2 different doses (low-dose: 1,200 mg/d, high-dose: 3,600 mg/d) of aloe vera gel supplementation for 90 days.
Disseminated superficial porokeratosis (DSP) is a rare variant of porokeratosis, which is characterized histologically by cornoid lamella and clinically by central atrophy with elevated borders. DSP is usually associated with immunosuppressive states and hematopoietic malignancies, but rarely with malignancies of visceral organs. A 65-year-old male presented with numerous brownish macules with elevated borders on the trunk and limbs that had been present for 1 year.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA relationship has been suggested between mast cells (MCs) and male pattern hair loss (MPHL), because of histological evidence of perifollicular fibrosis and increased mast cell numbers. Two paired punch biopsies were taken from balding vertexes and non-balding occipital promontory areas of ten patients with MPHL (Ludwig-Hamilton IIIv to IV) and from five normal subjects aged from 20 to 35 years. Masson trichrome and Victoria blue staining were performed to observe collagen frameworks and elastic fiber structures.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAdipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) are readily accessible multipotent mesenchymal stem cells and are known to secrete multiple growth factors, and thereby to have cytoprotective effects in various injury models. In the present study, the authors investigated the neuroprotective effect of ASCs in an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) model. ICH was induced via the stereotaxic infusion of collagenase, and human ASCs (three million cells per animal) isolated from human fresh fat tissue, were intravenously administered at 24 h post-ICH induction.

However, it is not convenient for patients to continue applying the solution twice daily on a regular basis. Tretinoin is known to increase the percutaneous absorption of minoxidil and, therefore, to enhance the response of AGA to minoxidil.

Dermal papilla cells (DPCs) are specialized fibroblasts, which are important in the morphogenesis and growth of hair follicles. In the present study, the effects of L-alanyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine-Cu2+ (AHK-Cu) on human hair growth ex vivo and cultured dermal papilla cells were evaluated.

Methods: Twenty C57/BL6 mice were used.
The expression levels of sex hormone receptors were identified to be different in human mesenchymal cells [dermal papilla cell (DPC), dermal sheath cell (DSC), dermal fibroblast and (DF)] from occipital scalps. Transcriptional and translational activities of androgen receptor (AR) and estrogen receptor beta (ERbeta) were most intensely expressed in DPC, followed by DSC and DF. On the contrary, estrogen receptor alpha (ERalpha) was shown with the strongest positivity in DSC, succeeded by DPC and DF subsequently.
