Identifying inflammation-induced leukocyte subsets and their derived circulating factors has been instrumental in understanding the progession of ALI/ARDS. Nevertheless, how primary inflammation-induced non-leukocyte populations in distal organs contribute to ALI/ARDS remains poorly defined. Here, we report one population of erythroblast-like cells (Ter-cells) deriving from megakaryocyte- erythroid progenitor cells with a unique Ter-119+CD45-CD71+ phenotype in ALI/ARDS.

Acute and chronic inflammation are important pathologies of benign airway stenosis (BAS) fibrosis, which is a frequent complication of critically ill patients. cGAS-STING signalling has an important role in inflammation and fibrosis, yet the function of STING in BAS remains unclear. Here we demonstrate using scRNA sequencing that cGAS‒STING signalling is involved in BAS, which is accompanied by increased dsDNA, expression and activation of STING.

Compliant strain gauges are well-suited to monitor tiny movements and processes in the body. However, they are easily damaged by unexpected impacts in practical applications, limiting their utility in controlled laboratory environments. This study introduces elastic microcracked MXene films for mechanically driven self-healing strain gauges.

Introduction: Congenital bronchial atresia (CBA), as a rare developmental abnormality of the lung, is usually asymptomatic and is accidently discovered in most cases. Currently, no standardized guidelines for the treatment or management of CBA have been established.

Case Presentation: A 22-year-old male soldier was referred to Shanghai Changhai Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University due to chest tightness and shortness of breath after repeated strenuous activities.

Previous researches indicate that tryptophan metabolism is critical to allergic inflammation and that indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1), as a key enzyme, is known for its immunosuppressive properties. Therefore, we are aimed to explore whether tryptophan metabolism, especially IDO1, influences allergic asthma and clarify specific mechanism. With the analysis of clinical data, exploration in cell experiments, and verifying in HDM-induced asthma mice models, we finally found that in allergic asthma, low level of T1 cytokines along with high level of T2 cytokines inhibited the expression of IDO1 in airway epithelium, hampering the kynurenine pathway in tryptophan metabolism and decreasing the level of intracellular kynurenine (Kyn).

Purpose: To evaluate the operability and safety of bronchoscopic domestic one-way endobronchial valves (EBV) on animals.

Methods: Nine pigs were randomly assigned (2:1) to receive domestic one-way EBV (the experimental group,  = 6) and Zephyr EBV (the control group,  = 3). Routine blood tests, arterial blood gases, and CT scans of the lungs were performed 1 day pre-procedure in addition to 1 week and 1 month post-procedure to assess changes in blood markers and lung volumes.

Stretchable electroluminescent devices represent an emerging optoelectronic technology for future wearables. However, their typical construction on sub-millimeter-thick elastomers has limited moisture permeability, leading to discomfort during long-term skin attachment. Although breathable textile displays may partially address this issue, they often have distinct visual appearances with discrete emissions from fibers or fiber junctions.

Background: The diagnostic yield of radial endobronchial ultrasound (r-EBUS) for the diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs) varies between studies and is affected by multiple factors. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of r-EBUS, and to explore the factors influencing the diagnostic yield of r-EBUS in patients with PPLs.

Methods: The PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases were searched to identify relevant studies that used r-EBUS for diagnosing PPLs from the date of inception to Dec 2022.

Background And Objective: Brachytherapy, a new form of radiation therapy, has been used to treat lung cancer and consists of two main forms of treatment: endobronchial brachytherapy and radioactive seed implantation brachytherapy (RSI-BT), the latter of which is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The use of RSI-BT in the treatment of NSCLC at our centre has yielded some positive results.

Methods: To more fully consider the context of this application, we conducted a search of PubMed from 2018 to March 5, 2023.

Pulmonary atypical carcinoid (AC) is an extremely rare neuroendocrine tumor. The neurotrophic tropomyosin receptor kinase (NTRK) fusions are reported in only 0.5% of nonsmall cell lung cancer, and are more rare in AC with only one previously reported case.

Article Synopsis
  • The objective of the study was to find the best aerosol production methods for two drugs, iloprost and sotatercept, as well as paclitaxel, through various nebulization techniques.
  • Results showed that while paclitaxel is not suitable for aerosol due to droplet size and potential danger, iloprost and sotatercept produced smaller droplets effectively across different nebulizers, with specific designs yielding the best results.

Single pulmonary nodules are a difficult to diagnose imagining artifact. Currently novel diagnostic tools such as Radial-EBUS with or not C-ARM flouroscopy, electromagnetic navigation systems, robotic bronchoscopy and cone beam-compuer tomography (CBCT) can assist in the optimal guidance of biopsy equipment. After diagnosis of lung cancer or metastatic disease as pulmonary nodule, then surgery or ablation methods as local treatment can be applied.

Stretchable electronics are crucial enablers for next-generation wearables intimately integrated into the human body. As the primary compliant conductors used in these devices, metallic nanostructure/elastomer composites often struggle to form conformal contact with the textured skin. Hybrid electrodes have been consequently developed based on conductive nanocomposite and soft hydrogels to establish seamless skin-device interfaces.

Background: Low oxygen saturation (LOS) is a frequent occurrence for patients with post-tuberculosis tracheobronchial stenosis (PTTS) during bronchoscopic procedures. However, there are currently no systematic assessment tools to predict LOS risk in PTTS patients during bronchoscopy.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop an effective preoperative predictive model to guide clinical practice.

Stretchable conductive nanocomposites are essential for deformable electronic devices. These conductors currently face significant limitations, such as insufficient deformability, significant resistance changes upon stretching, and drifted properties during cyclic deformations. To tackle these challenges, we present an electrically self-healing and ultrastretchable conductor in the form of bilayer silver nanowire/liquid metal microcapsule nanocomposites.

Background: Transbronchial lung biopsy guided by radial probe endobronchial ultrasonography with a guide sheath (EBUS-GS-TBLB) is becoming a significant approach for diagnosing peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs). We aimed to explore the clinical value of the resistance of the probe to pass through the lesion in the diagnosis of PPLs when performing EBUS-GS-TBLB, and to determine the optimum number of EBUS-GS-TBLB.

Methods: We performed a prospective, single-center study of 126 consecutive patients who underwent EBUS-GS-TBLB for solid and positive-bronchus-sign PPLs where the probe was located within the lesion from September 2019 to May 2022.

Background: DNA-damaging agents, including radiation and platinum-based chemotherapy, are indispensable treatments for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. However, cancer cells tend to be resistant to both radiation and chemotherapy, thus resulting in treatment failure or recurrence. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect and mechanism of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) PANDAR (promoter of CDKN1A antisense DNA damage-activated RNA) on NSCLC sensitivity to radiation and chemotherapy.
