Article Synopsis
  • The study reviews the safety and efficacy of echocardiogram services performed by neonatologists for diagnosing conditions in newborns, which has traditionally been handled by pediatric cardiologists.
  • A retrospective analysis was conducted on 258 echocardiograms from 232 patients to assess the reasons for imaging and compare results with cardiologists, with a focus on outcomes for those with congenital heart issues versus normal findings.
  • Results showed a high concordance rate between neonatologist and cardiologist assessments, suggesting that neonatologists can safely and effectively manage echocardiography for newborns, as no patients with normal cardiac anatomy had subsequent issues within the first year post-discharge.

This study describes the measures instituted at the largest maternity center in the United Arab Emirates during the pandemic to mitigate the risk of HCW contracting COVID-19, as well as the effectiveness of those measures. The incidence of COVID-19 amongst healthcare workers at the facility was compared to that in the general population over a 13-month period from February 2021 to February 2022.
