Intracellular transport among organellar compartments occurs in two general ways, by membrane-bound carriers or membrane contacts. Specific circumstances that involve the coordination of these two modes of transport remain to be defined. Studying Coat Protein I (COPI) transport, we find that phosphatidylcholine with short acyl chains (sPC) is delivered through membrane contact from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to sites of COPI vesicle formation at the Golgi to support the fission stage.

Acetaminophen (APAP), a widely used pain and fever reliever, is a major contributor to drug-induced liver injury, as its toxic metabolites such as NAPQI induce oxidative stress and hepatic necrosis. While N-acetylcysteine serves as the primary treatment for APAP-induced liver injury (AILI), its efficacy is confined to a narrow window of 8-24 h post-APAP overdose. Beyond this window, liver transplantation emerges as the final recourse, prompting ongoing research to pinpoint novel therapeutic targets aimed at enhancing AILI treatment outcomes.

The parathyroid gland is an endocrine organ that plays a crucial role in regulating calcium levels in blood serum through the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Hypoparathyroidism is a chronic disease that can occur due to parathyroid defects, but due to the difficulty of creating animal models of this disease or obtaining human normal parathyroid cells, the evaluation of parathyroid functionality for drug development is limited. Although parathyroid-like cells that secrete PTH have recently been reported, their functionality may be overestimated using traditional culture methods that lack similarities, particularly vascularization.
