Background/objective: The Rs1 exon-1-del rat (Rs1KO) XLRS model shows normal retinal development until postnatal day 12 (P12) when small cystic spaces start to form in the inner nuclear layer. These spaces enlarge rapidly, peak at P15, and then collapse by P19.
Methods: We explored the possible involvement of Kir4.
Background: Huntington disease (HD), a neurodegenerative autosomal dominant disorder, is characterized by involuntary choreatic movements with cognitive and behavioral disturbances. Up to now, no therapeutic strategies are available to completely ameliorate the progression of HD. has various pharmacologic effects such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.

Method: Using the Korean National Health Insurance Service database (2010-2019), BCS without previous history of CVD were enrolled.
Bcl-2, a key regulator of cellular apoptosis, is typically linked to adverse prognosis in solid tumors due to its inhibition of apoptotic cell death and promotion of cellular proliferation, leading to tumor progression. However, studies on Bcl-2 in breast cancer have shown inconsistent results, with some indicating favorable outcomes. This study aims to determine the subtype-specific role of Bcl-2 in breast cancer.

This review examines analytical methodology for food flavor analysis. Traditionally, flavor chemistry research has relied on sensory-guided chromatography techniques to identify individual compounds responsible for aroma or taste activity. Among the over 12,000 volatile compounds identified in foods, hundreds have been linked to aroma characteristics, and many taste-active compounds have also been discovered.

Current guidelines recommend genetic testing, but genetic data on differential diagnoses and their relation with clinical outcomes in HCM are still lacking. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of genetic variants and the proportion of other cardiomyopathies in patients with suspected HCM in Korea and compare the outcomes of HCM according to the presence of sarcomere gene mutation.

Aims: This study compared echocardiography (echo) and cardiac computed tomography (CT) in measuring the Wilkins score and evaluated the potential added benefit of CT in predicting immediate percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty (PMV) outcomes in rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) patients deemed eligible for PMV by echo.
Methods And Results: From a multicentre registry of 3,140 patients with at least moderate MS, we included 96 patients (age 56.4±11.
Pine needle, pine bark, and soil samples were collected from various regions in South Korea, considering the suitability of vegetation samples as passive samplers. A total of 27 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) were analyzed using a gas chromatograph/high-resolution mass spectrometer (GC/HRMS). The total concentrations of OCPs ranged between 650 and 3652 pg/g dw in soil, 215 and 1384 pg/g ww in pine needles, and 456 and 1723 pg/g ww in pine bark.

Secondary data analysis was performed using the 2019 Korea National Health Insurance (KNHI) reimbursement data of I metropolitan city. Data from 52 434 older adults who were LTCI recipients and living in I metropolitan city areas were included.

An increased risk of DM incidence in cancer survivors has been observed and smoking is an important modifiable risk factor for DM development in the general population. Thus, we investigated the association between smoking behavior change after cancer diagnosis and DM incidence in cancer survivors.

Aims: Determining elevated left atrial (LA) pressure is crucial in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), yet non-invasive estimation using echocardiography remains unclear. This study aimed to identify useful echocardiographic indices for identifying elevated LA pressure in patients with AF.
Methods And Results: Patients with paroxysmal or persistent AF referred for catheter ablation at two tertiary hospitals were prospectively enrolled.
Particulate matter (PM) contains various hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) that can adversely affect human health, highlighting the need for an integrated index to represent the associated health risks. In response, this study developed a novel index, the comprehensive air-risk index (CARI), for Ulsan, the largest industrial city in South Korea. This index integrates toxicity-weighted concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals using their inhalation unit risks.

This study aimed to assess whether earlier tricuspid valve (TV) surgery provides a survival benefit in patients with moderate to severe TR who are considered at low to intermediate risk of adverse clinical or surgical outcomes.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 10 016 patients diagnosed with moderate to severe TR between 2008 and 2020.

Background: Oxaliplatin is a commonly used platinum-based chemotherapy drug for patients with pancreatic cancer (PC). Drug resistance is a major challenge in PC treatment, underscoring the urgent need for new approaches. Targeting DNA damage repair, one of the factors responsible for platinum resistance, is an attractive strategy to overcome drug resistance.

However, increasing evidence substantiates the importance of individual differences in cognitive aging. How do experiential factors related to culture shape developmental trajectories of cognition? We propose a new model examining how age and culture influence cognitive processes, building on past models and expanding upon them to incorporate a lifespan developmental perspective.

COVID-19 remains a global public health issue and an improved understanding of vaccine performance in immunocompromised individuals, including people living with HIV (PLWH), is needed. Initial data from the present study's pre-crossover/booster phase were previously reported. This phase 2a/b clinical trial in South Africa (2019nCoV-501/NCT04533399) revisits 1:1 randomly assigned HIV-negative adults (18-84 years) and medically stable PLWH (18-64 years) who previously received two NVX-CoV2373 doses (5 μg recombinant Spike protein with 50 μg Matrix-M™ adjuvant) or placebo.

The mean concentrations of Σ PCDD/Fs, Σ dl-PCBs, and Σ I-PCBs were 78 pg/g dw, 90 pg/g dw, and 453 pg/g dw in the soil and 6 pg/g ww, 31 pg/g ww, and 166 pg/g ww in the pine needles, respectively. The mean concentrations of PCDD/Fs, dl-PCBs, and I-PCBs in the soil at industrial sites (138, 184, and 453 pg/g dw) were significantly higher than those at urban (47, 33, and 186 pg/g dw) and suburban sites (48, 49, and 234 pg/g dw).

Although strategies such as nutrient management and biomanipulation are employed, these methods often take longer to demonstrate effectiveness and indirectly work on algal blooms. This has led to the evaluation of eco-friendly technologies such as plant-mineral composites (PMCs) for faster and targeted control of algal proliferation and organic pollution.

Recent advances in transcranial optogenetic techniques with external light sources, using upconversion particles and highly sensitive opsins, have shown promise for precise neuromodulation with improved spatial resolution in deeper brain regions. However, these methods have not yet been used to selectively excite or inhibit specific neural populations in multiple brain regions.

The analysis of new seasonal influenza vaccines is challenging in part due to the limitations of the traditional hemagglutination inhibition (HAI) assay with A/H3N2 strains. An improved and objective novel HAI assay was developed with recombinant virus-like particles (VLPs) and an egg-derived virus as agglutinins, the oseltamivir treatment of VLPs, human red blood cells, and using an automated image reader-based analysis of hemagglutination.

In this paper, we introduce a post-processing method, the Multi-Head Attention Refiner (MA-R), designed to address this issue by integrating a multi-head attention mechanism into the U-Net style refiner module. Our method demonstrates improved capability in capturing intricate image details, leading to significant enhancements in boundary predictions and recall rates.
