Objectives: The aim was to evaluate the viability and the outcomes of the sural flap performed with the pedicle covered by a strip of skin.

Methods: A prospective cohort of 20 consecutive cases were evaluated in terms of flap viability, complication rate, and the amount of skin graft required. The location of the defects was the middle third of the tibia in 3 cases, the ankle and hindfoot in 15 cases, the middle foot in 1 case, and the forefoot in 1 case.

We developed an effective binding free energy prediction protocol which incorporates quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) calculations to substitute the specified atomic charges of force fields with quantum-mechanically recalculated ones at a proposed pose using a mining minima approach with the VeraChem mining minima engine. We tested this protocol using seven well-known targets with 147 different ligands and compared it with classical mining minima and the most popular binding free energy (BFE) methods using different metrics. Our new protocol, dubbed Qcharge-VM2, yielded an overall Pearson correlation of 0.

Vaccines have played an essential role in curbing case and mortality rates due to SARS-CoV-2 in the United Sates. Still, many communities display high rates of unwillingness or inability to get a COVID-19 vaccine, limiting overall vaccination efforts and contributing to viral spread. Black Americans have expressed skepticism towards vaccines because of limited access to the technology, mistrust in its safety and efficacy, and a lack of confidence in the healthcare authorities that distribute it.

Background: Traditionally, testicular biopsy is performed using an open surgical approach. Ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsy is a less invasive alternative and can be performed in children.

Objective: The aim of this study is to report our technique and to assess the diagnostic accuracy and safety of ultrasound-guided percutaneous biopsy of testicular masses in children.

Article Synopsis
  • * 46 patients were enrolled and divided into two groups based on their preference: 21 received CS and 25 underwent EV treatment. Various clinical improvement measures and quality of life assessments were evaluated over 6 months.
  • * Results showed that both treatments had no major complications and both groups experienced significant improvements in venous severity scores and quality of life, with the EV group generally showing greater improvements at 1, 3, and 6 months post-treatment.

In the brain, vesicular zinc, which refers to a subset of zinc that is sequestered into synaptic vesicles by zinc transporter 3 (ZnT3), has extensive effects on neuronal signalling and modulation. Vesicular zinc-focused research has mainly been directed to its role in the hippocampus, particularly in adult neurogenesis. However, whether vesicular zinc is involved in modulating neurogenesis during the early postnatal period has been less studied.

N-linked glycans covering GP5 neutralizing epitopes of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) have been proposed to act as a sheath blocking the production of neutralizing antibodies. Herein, we genetically engineered PRRSV with serine (S) substitution on the 44th asparagine (N) on the GP5 ectodomain of PRRSV-2 lineage-1. To evaluate the recombinant PRRSV, in vivo experiments were performed in piglets.

Objective: Since the publication of A Randomized Trial of Unruptured Brain AVMs (ARUBA), the management of unruptured brain arteriovenous malformations (bAVMs) has been controversially discussed. Long-term follow-up data on the exclusively conservative management of unruptured bAVMs are scarce. The authors evaluated the long-term outcomes of patients with unruptured untreated bAVMs in a real-life cohort.

Euglenids are a diverse group of flagellates that inhabit most environments and exhibit many different nutritional modes. The most prominent euglenids are phototrophs, but phagotrophs constitute the majority of phylogenetic diversity of euglenids. They are pivotal to our understanding of euglenid evolution, yet we are only starting to understand relationships amongst phagotrophs, with the backbone of the tree being most elusive.

Prcis: The risk of primary angle closure disease (PACD) rises rapidly with greater hyperopia while remaining relatively low for all degrees of myopia. Refractive error (RE) is useful for angle closure risk stratification in the absence of biometric data.

Purpose: To assess the role of RE and anterior chamber depth (ACD) as risk factors in PACD.

Unlabelled: Lower trunk lesions are uncommon, representing about 3 to 5% of brachial plexus lesions in adults. One of the functions lost by patients who suffer this type of injury is the flexion of the fingers, with important harming of palmar grip. This series of cases proposes the transfer of a branch of the radial nerve to the anterior interosseous nerve (AIN), presenting a new alternative for the treatment of these lesions with highly satisfactory results.

Background: Maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) has been reported to be associated with the postpartum mother-infant relationship. Seeing the fetus through ultrasound might influence MFA, and the effect could be increased by more realistic images, such as those generated in virtual reality (VR).

Objective: The aim was to determine the effect of fetal images generated in VR on MFA and depressive symptoms through a prenatal-coaching mobile app.

Introduction: Ropivacaine is widely used as a local analgesic, but it has toxicity that is related to the concentration, and highly concentrated ropivacaine can induce motor nerve blockage.

Aim: To investigate the safety of low-concentration pre-incisional ropivacaine injection for postoperative pain control and compare postoperative adverse events between a low-concentration ropivacaine injection group and a high-concentration ropivacaine injection group.

Material And Methods: Patients who underwent thyroidectomy via the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) between June 2017 and October 2021 performed by a single surgeon at Samsung Medical Center were retrospectively identified.

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) has evolved through various mutation mechanisms, including antigenic drift and recombination. Four genotypic lineages of IBVs including GI-15, GI-16, GI-19, and GVI-1 have been reported in Korea. In this study, we isolated two IBVs from chicken farms, designated IBV/Korea/289/2019 (K289/19) and IBV/Korea/163/2021 (K163/21), which are two distinct natural recombinant viruses most likely produced by genetic reassortment between the S1 gene of K40/09 strain (GI-19 lineage) and IBV/Korea/48/2020 (GI-15 lineage) in co-infected commercial chickens.

Urinary stone disease is a common problem in adults, with an estimated 10% to 20% lifetime risk of developing a stone and an annual incidence of almost 1%. In contrast, in children, even though the incidence appears to be increasing, urinary tract stones are a rare problem, with an estimated incidence of approximately 5 to 36 per 100,000 children. Consequently, typical complications of rare diseases, such as delayed diagnosis, lack of awareness, and specialist knowledge, as well as difficulties accessing specific treatments also affect children with stone disease.

Single-atom nanozymes (SAzymes) are promising in next-generation nanozymes, nevertheless, how to rationally modulate the microenvironment of SAzymes with controllable multi-enzyme properties is still challenging. Herein, we systematically investigate the relationship between atomic configuration and multi-enzymatic performances. The constructed Mn -N -coordinated SAzymes (Mn -N -C) exhibits much more remarkable oxidase-, peroxidase-, and glutathione oxidase-like activities than that of Mn -N -C.

Objectives: To compare the analgesic efficacies of erector spinae plane (ESP) block and thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) in video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).

Methods: Sixty patients undergoing VATS received patient-controlled TEA with a basal rate of 3 ml/hour (h), a bolus of 3 ml (Group E), or ESP block with programmed intermittent bolus infusions of 15 mL/3 h and a bolus of 5 ml (Group ES) for 2 postoperative days. The primary outcome was to compare pain scores at rest 24 h postoperatively between the 2 groups.
