The primary objective of this study was to demonstrate the potential of digital image analysis as a tool to identify microplastic (MP) particles in surface waters and to facilitate their characterisation in terms of 2D and 3D morphology. Digital image analysis preceded by microscopic analysis was used for an exhaustive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of MPs isolated from the Vistula River. Using image processing procedures, 2D and 3D shape descriptors were determined.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA deficiency in accurate and current regulations, along with a lack of experience in sanitary construction, makes the installation of sewers challenging. Using models, it was determined that if the pumps were operated simultaneously, the service would last for a long time over the entire sewer system. With a daily sewage inflow of 468 dm, the system was found to run 14.

COD is an arbitrary indicator of the content of organic and inorganic compounds in wastewater. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of COD of industrial wastewater on the nitrification process. This research covered wastewater from acrylonitrile and styrene-butadiene rubbers, emulsifiers, polyvinyl acetate, styrene, solvents (butyl acetate, ethyl acetate) and owipian (self-extinguishing polystyrene intended for expansion) production.

Also the physiology of the formation of PM-R its flow and absorption have shortly been discussed. Hydrocephalus is a major clinical, diagnostic and therapeutical problem.

Material And Methods: Dacryocystography of lacrimal ducts was performed in 25 patients by using 0.5-1 ml of Lipidiol and conducting X rays in different head positions--3-4 photograph in A-P projection (exposition's parameters 85-90 kV and 12-15 mAs, distance lamp-table: 100-130 cm, Philips Diagnose 93).
Aim Of The Study: Presentation of dacryoscintigraphic method.
Material And Methods: In 221 lacrimating patients dacryoscintigraphy was performed using sterile 99mTc-sodium pertechnetate instilled with a micropipette into the conjunctival sac of both eyes and using a small gamma camera with high resolution collimator. Serial scintigrams of the lacrimal ducts were saved in computer's memory, inspected visually, and processed according to clinical computer programme.

Single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) using radioisotope markers was applied for analysis of regional blood flow in the brain. The method makes possible demonstration of the presence and extent of damage to the nervous tissue caused by trauma. The degree of blood flow impairment is of prognostic significance in cases of cerebral concussion.

The authors described the application of facial bone scintigraphy in 6 patients with acute and 47 patients with chronic sinusitis, 4 patients with cyst of maxillary sinus, 4 patients with sinus maxillary neoplasm and 4 patients with pyocele of frontal sinus. Facial bone scintigraphy was performed by gamma-camera Siemens Gammasonics ZLC-750 after intravenous administration of 15 mCi of 99mTcMDP in anteroposterior projection. The index of accumulation of the tracer (JAT) in maxillary sinus region was counted separately in men and in women in the reference group.

The paper is a continuation of the preliminary communication in Neurologia i Neurochirurgia Polska No 3/1995. The study in 1993-1995 included a group of 50 patients who had clinical symptom complex of brain concussion. After preliminary neurological assessment within 3 days in all cases brain CT and cerebral perfusion determination (SPECT M-PAO) were obtained.

EEG recording showed changes which seemed to agree with the changes of regional cerebral blood flow presented by SPECT.

The authors carried out 66 myeloscintigraphies in 66 patients suspected of having compressing lesions of the spinal cord. In 32 cases the obtained results agreed with the results of contrast myelography which was carried out in 38 patients, and in 22 cases these results were confirmed by operations. In the remaining cases contrast myelography was abandoned in view of unequivocal results of myeloscintigraphy and conservative treatment was started.

The authors report two cases of brain abscess presenting considerable diagnostic difficulties despite neuroradiological investigations (angiography, pneumoencephalography, ventriculography). Brain scintigraphy was found to be most reliable in the detection and localization of focal intracerebral changes and made possible successful surgical intervention. In both cases the proper diagnosis of abscess was made only during the operation since the clinical syndrome did not suggest this type of lesion.
