Fipronil is an insecticide which is not approved for use in any food-producing animal species in the European Union (EU). However, the inappropriate use of fipronil in mites' disinfestation products utilized in poultry farms in the Netherlands and other EU countries in 2017, led to the detection of residues of this pesticide in eggs across Europe. In Italy, a national monitoring plan was established to verify the possible misuse of fipronil in Italian laying hens.

Method performance indicators were equivalent or better than those required for the control of EU regulated (EU, 2017/644) PCDD/F and PCB congeners in these foods, and for risk assessment through dietary intake. The method uses a high (>90%) proportion of Carbon-labelled surrogates for internal standardisation combined with high resolution mass spectrometry that allow accurate quantitation, and this was confirmed by multiple successful participations in proficiency testing for PCDD/Fs, PCBs and PBDEs in food.

The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the impact of aging and comorbidities on outcomes in patients who underwent surgery for the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) in Veneto Region (Northeastern Italy). This is a retrospective cohort study in patients ≥ 40 years who underwent elective or urgent CRC surgical resection between January 2013 and December 2015.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Surgical outcomes in geriatric patients may be complicated by factors such as multiple comorbidities, low functional performance, frailty, reduced homeostatic capacity, and cognitive impairment. An integrated multidisciplinary approach to management is, therefore, essential in this population, but at present, the use of such an approach is uncommon. The Perioperative Management of Elderly patients (PriME) project has been established to address this issue.

The consumption of contaminated molluscs can lead to acute food poisoning syndromes depending on the exposure level. Regulatory limits have been set by Regulation (European Community, 2004a) No 853/2004 and LC-MS/MS is used as the official analytical method according to Regulation (European Community, 2011) No 15/2011.

Objectives: Aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of regional anaesthesia on PPSP and long-term functional outcome after TKA.
Design: A web-based prospective observational registry.
A simple analytical method for the quantitative determination of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in feed and premix formulations was developed and validated. The method involves an extraction with an acidic ferric chloride solution, to quantitatively convert EDTA species in the samples into the Fe(III)-EDTA complex, and its subsequent detection by Ion-Pair-Reversed Phase-High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Diode Array Detection (IP-RP-HPLC-DAD). A robust validation procedure was performed according to the Decision 2002/657/EC at concentrations ranging from 25 to 100 mg kg(-1) on sample.

In 8 patients who underwent abdominal surgery for non-neoplastic reasons, we have evaluated some parameters of renal function (PRP, NaU, GFR and diuresis) plasma levels of PRA and ADH and urinary prostaglandins PGE2 and 6-keto-PGF1 alpha. In 4 patients we found that surgery per se was associated with enhancements of PRA, ADH and 6-keto-PGF1 alpha. In other 4 patients, Indomethacin, a specific inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis was given and this was followed by impairment of natriuresis and RPF.
