The escalating resistance of uropathogens in pediatric febrile urinary tract infection (F-UTI) is a global concern. This study examined changing trends in F-UTI epidemiology and resistance patterns among Israeli pediatric inpatients over a decade. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data for children between 3 months and 18 years old with febrile UTI from 2010 to 2021 were retrieved from electronic medical records.

A host protein test that computationally integrates the circulating levels of TNF-related apoptosis-induced ligand, interferon γ-induced protein-10, and C-reactive protein to differentiate between bacterial and viral infection (called MMBV) demonstrated high performance in multiple prospective clinical validation studies. Here, MMBV's diagnostic accuracy is evaluated in febrile children for whom physicians were uncertain about etiology when applied at the physician's discretion.

It arises due to the excessive consumption of pain-relief medications, resulting in the escalation and continuous persistence of headache symptoms. Nevertheless, the prevalence and distinctive characteristics of medication overuse headaches in the pediatric population have not been comprehensively explored.

The aim of the study is to investigate the impact of a paediatric hospital visit with laboratory-confirmed influenza on the influenza vaccination behaviour of participants and their family members in the subsequent influenza season.
Methods: This study compared the influenza vaccination coverage for participants < 18 years of age with a clinical suspicion of influenza in 2017-2018 during a hospital visit, in two subsequent influenza seasons.
An experiment in the dual-task paradigm was carried out to explore the nature of domain-specific and domain-general resource distribution in working memory. The subjects (N = 32) performed symmetry span and letter reading span tasks under visuospatial (tapping) and verbal (articulatory suppression) cognitive load. The effects of task type and cognitive load modality were analyzed.

A host-protein score (BV score) for differentiating bacterial from viral infection that combines the expression levels of TNF-related apoptosis-induced ligand, interferon gamma-induced protein-10, and C-reactive protein exhibited a negative predictive value (NPV) of 98% in prior studies. Here we evaluate BV score's diagnostic accuracy in pediatrics with adenovirus PCR detection.

The aim of the present study was the determination of immunological markers for monitoring response to ICI. The present study included 74 patients receiving ICI in subsequent [group 1; non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)] and first-line setting (group 2; melanoma) and 30 patients with NSCLC receiving first-line chemotherapy.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the performance of the Pediatric Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (PaedCTAS) in adolescent patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
Methods: A time-series study was conducted in the Emergency Departments (EDs) of 17 public hospitals during the Delta (B.1.
Homogeneous catalysis is typically considered "well-defined" from the standpoint of catalyst structure unambiguity. In contrast, heterogeneous nanocatalysis often falls into the realm of "poorly defined" systems. Supported catalysts are difficult to characterize due to their heterogeneity, variety of morphologies, and large size at the nanoscale.

The current study assesses the knowledge and attitudes of Israeli HCWs regarding COVID-19 immunization, and how various occupational and demographic factors may underlie COVID-related knowledge and attitudes differences.
Methods: Following a pre-test to validate measures, a cross-sectional online anonymous survey was distributed to HCWs using a snowball sampling method.
Background: The introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine-13 (PCV-13) has reduced the burden of invasive pneumococcal disease.
Objectives: To characterize true positive blood cultures of children who presented to our hospital following implementation of the PCV-13 vaccine.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on positive blood cultures of children presenting with fever from 2010-2017.
Objective: To develop a method for analysis of lymphatic drainage pathways from the lobe of the lung affected by non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using infrared fluorescence.
Material And Methods: A study enrolled patients with NSCLC who underwent anatomic resection of the lung with systematic lymph node dissection and preliminary intraoperative peritumoral injection of indocyanine green conjugate with human albumin. Registration of fluorescence in regional lymph nodes (LN) was carried out immediately after excision of specimen using the FLUM-808 instrumental system.
Objective: If a gold standard is lacking in a diagnostic test accuracy study, expert diagnosis is frequently used as reference standard. However, interobserver and intraobserver agreements are imperfect. The aim of this study was to quantify the reproducibility of a panel diagnosis for pediatric infectious diseases.

Surprisingly, little is known about antibiotic use in children as compared to adults with RTI. This prospective study aimed to determine antibiotic misuse in children and adults with RTI, using an expert panel reference standard, in order to prioritise the target age population for antibiotic stewardship interventions.

Methods: We utilized allele-specific PCR (AS-PCR), digital droplet PCR (ddPCR) and next generation sequencing (NGS) to detect EGFR T790M allele in several collections of tumor and normal human tissues.
Results: AS-PCR analysis of treatment-naïve tumor samples revealed somatic T790M mutation in 3/394 (1%) non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC) carrying the tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI)-sensitizing EGFR mutation, but in none of 334 NSCLC lacking EGFR exon 19 deletions (ex19del) or L858R substitutions and in none of 235 non-lung tumors.
Background: Ethnicity is a risk factor for disparate Emergency Department (ED) analgesia. We aimed to explore ethnic variations in the administration of ED analgesia to children with acute appendicitis in Israeli government hospitals.
Methods: Children discharged with an International Classification of Disease-Ninth Revision diagnosis of acute appendicitis between 2010 and 2015 were included.
Bacterial and viral infections often present with similar symptoms. Etiologic misdiagnosis can alter the trajectory of patient care, including antibiotic overuse. A host-protein signature comprising tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), interferon gamma-induced protein-10 (IP-10), and C-reactive protein (CRP) was validated recently for differentiating bacterial from viral disease.

Antibiotic treatment is recommended in cases suspected of bacterial coinfection. The aim of this prospective study was to estimate the incidence of bacterial coinfections and the amount of antibiotic overuse in children infected with RSV using expert panel diagnosis.

We compared the diagnostic accuracy of a new assay that combines 3 host-biomarkers (TRAIL, IP-10, CRP) with parameters in routine use to distinguish bacterial from viral LRTIs. Study cohort included 184 potentially eligible pediatric and adult patients.

A novel assay that integrates measurements of blood-borne host-proteins (tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, interferon γ-induced protein-10, and C-reactive protein [CRP]) was developed to assist in differentiation between bacterial and viral disease.
Methods: We performed double-blind, multicenter assay evaluation using serum remnants collected at 5 pediatric emergency departments and 2 wards from children ≥3 months to ≤18 years without ( = 68) and with ( = 529) suspicion of acute infection.
Occipital headache is considered a risk factor for serious secondary headache pathology. The purpose of our study was to assess the etiology of occipital headaches among children visiting the emergency department. Subjects were children aged 5 to 18 years who were referred to the emergency department due to headaches during the years 2013 to 2014.
