Perceptions towards unhealthy food sponsorship in junior sports in Victoria, Australia.

Objective: To explore Victorian parents' and club officials' engagement with, and attitudes towards, the sponsorship of junior sports by unhealthy food and beverage companies.

Methods: We conducted online surveys with 504 parents of children participating in junior sports and 16 semi-structured interviews with junior sports club officials (from clubs that accepted unhealthy food sponsorship) in Victoria, Australia.

Results: Most parents were concerned about children's exposure to sponsorship by unhealthy local (58% extremely, very or moderately concerned) and large food companies (63%) in junior sports.

Strong community engagement has been critical to support COVID-19 vaccine uptake in Australia and elsewhere. Community engagement builds trust, enables tailored information dissemination and shapes social norms. Engagement is particularly important in communities with greater vaccine hesitancy, lower health literacy and mistrust in authorities.

Community sport provides an opportunity to implement policies promoting water as the beverage of choice. However, the attitudes of parents toward a water-only policy are not known.

Methods: Cross-sectional audit of non-toddler specific ('regular') foods and milks and secondary analysis of existing audit data of toddler specific (12-36 months) foods and milks in Australia.

Main Findings: The cost of all toddler-specific foods and milks was higher than the regular non-toddler foods.

Background: Parents of children with intellectual and neurodevelopmental disorders (IDD) often experience traumatic events in the care of their children. This leads to comparatively high numbers of mental health problems such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in those parents. Intervention approaches for parents of children with IDD are scarce and many parents remain without support.

Advocating the rights of people with dementia to contribute to research: Considerations for researchers and ethics committees.

Objective: Research involving people with dementia is vital to appropriately inform policy and practice decisions affecting this population. As dementia-care researchers, we frequently advocate to Human Research Ethics Committees for the right of people with dementia to choose whether to participate in research. This brief report provides some considerations for researchers and ethics committees.

A state-wide audit of unhealthy sponsorship within junior sporting clubs in Victoria, Australia.

Objective: To systematically audit the extent of unhealthy sponsorship within junior community sporting clubs and ascertain whether differences exist across geographical areas and sport types.

Design: Club sponsorship data were assessed to determine the extent of unhealthy food/beverage, alcohol and gambling sponsorship using a cross-sectional design. Differences across geographical areas were assessed using logistic regressions.

Strain-Induced Atomic-Scale Building Blocks for Ferromagnetism in Epitaxial LaCoO.

The origin of strain-induced ferromagnetism, which is robust regardless of the type and degree of strain in LaCoO (LCO) thin films, is enigmatic despite intensive research efforts over the past decade. Here, by combining scanning transmission electron microscopy with density functional theory calculations, we report that the ferromagnetism does not emerge directly from the strain itself but rather from the creation of compressed structural units within ferroelastically formed twin-wall domains. The compressed structural units are magnetically active with the rocksalt-type high-spin/low-spin order.

Understanding Substrate-Guided Assembly in van der Waals Epitaxy by Laser Crystallization within a Transmission Electron Microscope.

Understanding the bottom-up synthesis of atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) crystals and heterostructures is important for the development of new processing strategies to assemble 2D heterostructures with desired functional properties. Here, we utilize laser-heating within a transmission electron microscope (TEM) to understand the stages of crystallization and coalescence of amorphous precursors deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) as they are guided by 2D crystalline substrates into van der Waals (vdW) epitaxial heterostructures. Amorphous clusters of tungsten selenide were deposited by PLD at room temperature onto graphene or MoSe monolayer crystals that were suspended on TEM grids.

Twin-Domain Formation in Epitaxial Triangular Lattice Delafossites.

Twin domains are often found as structural defects in symmetry mismatched epitaxial thin films. The delafossite O, which has a rhombohedral structure, is a good example that often forms twin domains. Although bulk metallic delafossites are known to be the most conducting oxides, high conductivity is yet to be realized in thin film forms.

Development of a Communications Program to Support Care of Critically Ill Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Patients.

A significant role of intensive care unit (ICU) workforce is ongoing communication with and support for families of critically ill patients. The COVID-19 pandemic has created unanticipated challenges to this essential function. Restrictions on visitors to hospitals and unprecedented clinical demands hamper traditional communication between ICU staff and patient families.

Metal-insulator transition tuned by oxygen vacancy migration across TiO/VO interface.

Oxygen defects are essential building blocks for designing functional oxides with remarkable properties, ranging from electrical and ionic conductivity to magnetism and ferroelectricity. Oxygen defects, despite being spatially localized, can profoundly alter global properties such as the crystal symmetry and electronic structure, thereby enabling emergent phenomena. In this work, we achieved tunable metal-insulator transitions (MIT) in oxide heterostructures by inducing interfacial oxygen vacancy migration.

Phases of a Pandemic Surge: The Experience of an Ethics Service in New York City during COVID-19.

When the COVID-19 surge hit New York City hospitals, the Division of Medical Ethics at Weill Cornell Medical College, and our affiliated ethics consultation services, faced waves of ethical issues sweeping forward with intensity and urgency. In this article, we describe our experience over an eight-week period (16 March through 10 May 2020), and describe three types of services: clinical ethics consultation (CEC); service practice communications/interventions (SPCI); and organizational ethics advisement (OEA). We tell this narrative through the prism of time, describing the evolution of ethical issues and trends as the pandemic unfolded.
