Effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on surgery for indeterminate thyroid nodules (THYCOVID): a retrospective, international, multicentre, cross-sectional study.

Background: Since its outbreak in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has diverted resources from non-urgent and elective procedures, leading to diagnosis and treatment delays, with an increased number of neoplasms at advanced stages worldwide. The aims of this study were to quantify the reduction in surgical activity for indeterminate thyroid nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic; and to evaluate whether delays in surgery led to an increased occurrence of aggressive tumours.

We search for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo full O3 dataset. Search results are presented for gravitational waves produced by cosmic string loop features such as cusps, kinks, and, for the first time, kink-kink collisions. A template-based search for short-duration transient signals does not yield a detection.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a disruption of surgical care. The aim of this multi-centric, retrospective study was to evaluate the impact of the pandemic on surgical activity for thyroid disease among the Italian Units of Endocrine Surgery. Three phases of the pandemic were identified based on the epidemiological situation and the public measures adopted from the Italian Government (1st phase: from 9th March to 3rd May 2020; 2nd phase: from 4th May to 14th June; 3rd phase: from 15th June to 31st).

[Neuropsychological assessment protocol for adults in epilepsy surgery].

Introduction: Refractory epilepsy means that the seizures are untreatable, and therefore one of the interventions that makes it possible to eliminate them or to accomplish a reduction in the number of seizures is neurosurgery.

Development: A neuropsychological evaluation model aimed at measuring the cognitive performance of adult patients who are candidates for epilepsy surgery is proposed. In line with the proposals most frequently put forward by the various reference centres for epilepsy, an open protocol is proposed that is aimed at obtaining a baseline of overall cognitive performance, cognitive reserve and manual dominance, as well as cognitive processes such as attention, language, visuoconstructive and manipulative skills, memory and executive functions, among others, without neglecting the psychopathological examination and the patient's quality of life.

We explore many-body entanglement in spinful Fermi gases with short-range interactions, for metrology purposes. We characterize the emerging quantum phases via density-matrix renormalization group simulations and quantify their entanglement content for metrological usability via quantum Fisher information (QFI). Our study establishes a method, promoting QFI to be an order parameter.

We searched for large deletions at the locus in patients with: HPT-JT (nr 2), atypical adenoma (nr 7) or sporadic parathyroid carcinoma (nr 11) with a specific MLPA and qRT-PCR assays applied on DNA extracted from whole blood. A Medline search in database for all the papers reporting a gene mutation, clinical/histological diagnosis, age at onset, Ca, PTH levels for familial/sporadic cases was conducted with the aim to possibly identify biochemical/clinical markers predictive, in first diagnosis, of the presence of a gene mutation.
