Background Aims: Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) meeting UNOS-downstaging (DS) criteria have excellent post-liver transplantation (LT) outcomes. Studies on HCC beyond UNOS-DS criteria ("All-comers" (AC)) have been limited by small sample size and short follow-up time, prompting this analysis.
Approach Results: 326 patients meeting UNOS-DS and 190 meeting AC criteria from 9 LT centers across 5 UNOS regions were enrolled from 2015 to 2023 and prospectively followed.
In our previous studies of metal nanoparticle growth, we have come to realize that the dynamic interplay between ligand passivation and metal deposition, as opposed to static facet control, is responsible for focused growth at a few active sites. In this work, we show that the same underlying principle could be applied to a very different system and explain the abnormal growth modes of liquid nanoparticles. In such a liquid active surface growth (LASG), the interplay between droplet expansion and simultaneous silica shell encapsulation gives rise to an active site of growth, which eventually becomes the long necks of nanobottles.

We designed a SiO@C/MnO composite material with ultrafine particle size using a simple sol-gel method and calcination process. SiO and MnO components produce a mutual suppression effect during the charge/discharge process to mitigate volume expansion and maintain the long-term stability of composite.

Methods: A national survey was conducted across all administrative regions of mainland China to assess the validation status of ESs. Fifty-eight cities were selected with stratification by municipality, provincial capital, and other cities, and health care institutions and households in each city were chosen by convenience to identify ES devices in use according to the study protocol.

Green's function theory has emerged as a powerful many-body approach not only in condensed matter physics but also in quantum chemistry in recent years. We have developed a new all-electron implementation of the BSE@GW formalism using numeric atom-centered orbital basis sets (Liu, C. 2020, 152, 044105).

However, a systematic analysis of gasdermin family members (GSDMs, including GSDMA/B/C/D/E and PJVK), which are deterministic executors of pyroptosis, has not yet been reported in HNSC.
Methods: We performed comprehensive analyses of the expression profile, prognostic value, regulatory network, and immune infiltration modulation of GSDMs in HNSC on the basis of a computational approach and bioinformatic analysis of publicly available datasets.
Objectives: This study aimed to establish standard transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) measurements of left ventricular (LV) morphology, function, and myocardial work parameters in healthy Beagle dogs using pressure-strain loops (PSL). Additionally, it sought to standardize optimal TEE imaging techniques and explore the potiential application of myocardial work analyis in veterinary medicine.
Methods: Thirty-seven healthy male Beagle dogs were anesthetized, intubated, and mechanically ventilated for TEE examinations.
This study aimed to prepare a composite film by blending cross-linked tapioca starch (CLTS) with sodium alginate (SA), silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and ZnO nanoparticles (ZnOs). The effects of SA, AgNPs, and ZnOs at different concentrations (1-3 wt%) on the mechanical properties, optical properties, thermal stability, and antibacterial activity of cross-linked starch films were also investigated. The structures of the films were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.

Driven by the pressing demand for integration and miniaturization within the terahertz (THz) spectrum, this research introduces an innovative approach to construct chiral structures using dichroism as the target function. This initiative aims to tackle the prevalent issues of single-functionality, narrow application scope, and intricate design in conventional metasurfaces. The proposed multifunctional tunable metasurface employs a graphene-metal hybrid structure to address the critical constraints found in existing designs.

This study synthesized three hyperbranched polyimides (HBPI-TAPP, HBPI-(Zn)TAPP, and HBPI-(Cu)TAPP) by polymerizing 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin (TAPP), which features a cavity for metal ion coordination, with 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA), to systematically investigate the effect of metal ion species on storage performance. According to the results, memory devices based on HBPI-(Zn)TAPP exhibit volatile SRAM (static random-access memory) characteristics, whereas devices employing HBPI-TAPP and HBPI-(Cu)TAPP demonstrate non-volatile WORM (write-once, read-many) characteristics.

In recent years, particularly since the outbreaks of scarlet fever and invasive group A streptococcal diseases/infections (iGAS) in several European countries in 2022, iGAS has garnered widespread attention. Recently, Japan experienced an outbreak of a specific type of iGAS, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS). The outbreak was reported under the label"flesh-eating bacteria,"emphasizing the pathogenic potential of group A streptococcus (GAS).

An entropy-driven catalysis (EDC) strategy is appealing for amplified bioimaging of microRNAs in living cells; yet, complex operation procedures, lacking of cell selectivity, and insufficient accuracy hamper its further applications. Here, we introduce an ingenious all-in-one entropy-driven DNA nanomachine (termed as AIO-EDN), which can be triggered by endogenous apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1) to achieve tumor cell-selective dual-mode imaging of microRNA. Compared with the traditional EDC strategy, the integrated design of AIO-EDN achieves autocatalytic signal amplification without extra fuel strands.
