Characteristics of palliative home care for patients with hematological tumors compared to those of patients with solid tumors.

Home care medicine is a platform for providing supportive care for end-stage cancers. However, for undefined reasons, patients with hematological tumors (HTs) often fail to receive opportunities for home care. We, therefore, sought to delineate the clinical differences between solid tumors (STs) and HTs and to determine whether home care is effective for patients with HTs, as well as those with STs.

A 39-year-old man with nephrotic syndrome was admitted due to right dorsal pain. Contrast-enhanced CT led to a diagnosis of renal vein thrombosis and segmental pulmonary thromboembolism. Treatment with heparin and warfarin was started.

Pseudo-pulmonary embolism (PPE) superimposed on heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an important complication in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) treatment. We report the clinical profile of an HD patient with acute respiratory distress induced by PPE and HIT. A 67-year-old man with diabetic nephropathy and end-stage renal failure developed congestive heart failure.
