Serum Derivatives-Reactive Oxygen Metabolite Levels as a Marker of Clinical Conditions in Patients with Bronchial Asthma, COPD, or Asthma-COPD Overlap: A Prospective Study.

Oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathophysiology of bronchial asthma (BA), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma-COPD overlap (ACO), but its relevance has not been fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to measure the levels of oxidative stress and investigate its clinical significance in patients with BA, COPD, or ACO. We recruited 214 patients between June 2020 and May 2023 (109 patients with BA, 63 with COPD, and 42 with ACO).

Association of IL-33 in modeling type-2 airway inflammation and pulmonary emphysema in mice.

We developed pulmonary emphysema and a type 2 airway inflammation overlap mouse model. The bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) interleukin 13 (IL-13), IL-4, and IL-5 levels in the overlap model were higher than in the pulmonary emphysema model and lower than in the type 2 airway inflammation model, but IL-33 level in the lung was higher than in other models. IL-33 and interferon-γ (IFNγ) in lungs may control the severity of a type 2 airway inflammation in lung.

Novel predictive factors for patient discomfort and severe cough during bronchoscopy: A prospective questionnaire analysis.

During bronchoscopy, discomfort is mainly caused by an unavoidable cough; however, there are no reports of any predictive factors for strong cough during bronchoscopy identified before the procedure. To clarify the factors underlying the discomfort status and predictive factors for strong cough during bronchoscopy, we prospectively evaluated patients who underwent bronchoscopy at Kyorin University Hospital between March 2018 and July 2019. Before and after bronchoscopy, the enrolled patients answered a questionnaire regarding the procedure.

Aggressive lung involvement in a patient with T-acute lymphoblastic leukaemia/lymphoblastic lymphoma: a tricky and rare case report.

A 39-year-old man was admitted to our university hospital because of diffuse pulmonary infiltrates on chest X-ray. He had been diagnosed with T-acute lymphoblastic leukaemia/lymphoblastic lymphoma three years before and had been treated with chemotherapy and cord blood stem cell transplantation twice. Although he had neither blast cells in the peripheral blood nor leucocytosis, urgent bronchoscopy findings demonstrated blast cells invading both the alveolar spaces/alveolar septa and the vein walls.

A 77-year-old woman presented to our hospital with complaints of persistent cough and low-grade fever for two months. On radiological analysis, she had moderate right-sided pleural effusion with right hilar and subcarinal lymphadenopathies. Thoracentesis showed chylothorax of unknown cause.

Most patients with liver cysts are asymptomatic and require no treatment. In this patient with symptoms and restrictive ventilatory impairment, percutaneous needle aspiration with injection of minocycline hydrochloride was effective.

Pulmonary nocardiosis caused by mimicking lung cancer.

Nocardiosis is an uncommon infection caused by species, but it can often occur in immunocompromised patients. As computed tomography (CT) findings of pulmonary nocardiosis, consolidation, masses, and nodules are often found, but lymph node enlargement is infrequent. was first isolated in 2006, and there are still few reports on this microorganism.

Clinical characterization of 52 patients with immunoglobulin G4-related disease in a single tertiary center in Japan: Special reference to lung disease in thoracic high-resolution computed tomography.

Background: Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a rare multi-organ disorder. Physicians rarely encounter patients with IgG4-RD and its range of symptoms.

Methods: To elucidate the clinical characterization of IgG4-RD, along with the clinical significance of lung involvement, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who satisfied the comprehensive diagnostic criteria for IgG4-RD.
