The purpose of the present study was to assess, in detail, the association between tooth agenesis (TA) and various sagittal skeletal malocclusion groups in a Japanese orthodontic population. One thousand and twenty patients were divided into skeletal Class I, II, or III malocclusion groups using the A point, nasion, and B point angle. A sample of 64 patients with symmetrical agenesis of the mandibular third molars and without agenesis of the maxillary third molars was selected as the third molar agenesis group. In addition, 585 patients with all 4 third molars were selected as controls.
