Metastatic cancers of the pancreas are rare, accounting for approximately 2-4% of all pancreatic malignancies. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common solid tumor that metastasizes to the pancreas. Here, we present a case of uterine cervical carcinoma metastasizing to the pancreas and review the literature regarding this rare event.

Since malignant tumors are life-threatening, the death rate from these diseases is high, and existing therapies have limited effectiveness, it is desired to provide new effective anticancer drugs to tumor patients sooner. However, there is no guideline regarding non-clinical safety studies on the development of anticancer drugs required for the first in human clinical trials and for the approval applications in Japan. Then, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) established the collaboration group including regulatory, academic and industrial scientists to prepare the guideline on the non-clinical safety evaluation of anticancer drugs in 2004.

CD26, a membrane-bound ectopeptidase, is known as an activated T cell marker with dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) activity that has diverse functional roles in the regulation of peptide hormones, neuropeptides, chemokines and growth factors. We recently isolated a novel inhibitor of DPPIV, sulphostin, from culture broth of Streptomyces sp. MK251-43F3.

To clarify the effect of environmental endocrine disruptors on the induction of secondary sexual characteristics in wild animals, we observed 1,527 male and 1,847 female specimens of sexually mature Japanese freshwater crabs, Geothelphusa dehaani, collected at 12 sample points from 10 rivers in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The results obtained were as follows: Abnormal males, with external appearance of a complete male, but having female genital openings, were observed at frequencies of 8-32% of males collected at all sample points. In contrast to this, all females collected were normal.
