The synergistic interplay between cortisol and aldosterone is critical for maintaining homeostasis, particularly in blood pressure regulation, fluid balance, and stress response. Cortisol, a glucocorticoid, and aldosterone, a mineralocorticoid, often act in tandem to regulate sodium retention and blood volume. Dysregulation of these hormones, as seen in hyperaldosteronism or Cushing's syndrome, contributes to hypertension and metabolic imbalances.

We aimed to compare the clinical effectiveness and safety of GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors in managing type 2 diabetes, with a specific focus on stratifying people by their frailty status.
Methods: In this retrospective, nationwide, longitudinal study, we identified people (aged ≥20 years) with type 2 diabetes who newly initiated either a GLP-1 receptor agonist or an SGLT2 inhibitor during the period Jan 1, 2017 to Dec 31, 2019 from the Taiwan National Health Insurance database.
Introduction: There is a lack of real-world evidence regarding the impact of concomitant metformin and renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASis) on sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i)-associated kidney outcomes. This study was aimed to investigate whether SGLT2i-associated kidney outcomes were modified by the concomitant use of metformin or RASis in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: SGLT2i users were identified from three electronic health record databases during May 2016 and December 2017 and categorized into those with and without concomitant use of metformin or RASis.
Background: The recurrence rate of thyroid cancer can be as high as 30%. The purpose of this study was to examine changes of urine exosomal peptide levels after thyroidectomy in patients with thyroid cancer to determine if levels can predict the risk of recurrence.
Methods: Patients >20 years old as newly diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer who had received a thyroidectomy were recruited.
We present an in-depth analysis of dyslipidemia management strategies for patients with diabetes mellitus in Taiwan. It critically examines the disparity between established guideline recommendations and actual clinical practices, particularly in the context of evolving policies affecting statin prescriptions. The focus is on synthesizing the most recent findings concerning lipid management in patients with diabetes mellitus, with a special emphasis on establishing consensus regarding low-density lipoprotein cholesterol treatment targets.

The Mallya cap converts a conventional insulin pen into a smart connected device that can automatically synchronize dose values and associated timestamps (upon injection) to the H2S platform. This single-arm real-world study evaluated the effectiveness of insulin glargine 300 U/mL (Gla-300) combined with H2S and Mallya cap (Gla-300 + Cap + App program) on clinical outcomes among users with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Taiwan.

We aimed to investigate the relationship between plasma angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4), a protein involved in lipid and glucose metabolism during pregnancy, placental function, growth factors, and the risk of LGA.
Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study and recruited women with singleton pregnancies at the National Taiwan University Hospital between 2013 and 2018.
Context: Recent studies suggest that the clinical characteristics and biological behavior of pituitary tumors (PITs) in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) may not be as aggressive as previously reported. Increased imaging of the pituitary as recommended by screening guidelines identifies more tumors, potentially at an earlier stage. However, it is unknown if these tumors have different clinical characteristics in different MEN1 mutations.

LTBP4 (latent transforming growth factor beta binding protein 4) regulates transforming growth factor beta, which plays a role in renal fibrosis pathogenesis. We previously investigated the role of LTBP4 in chronic kidney disease.

A key challenge to adoption of CGM for management of diabetes in Asia is the lack of regional CGM recommendations. Hence, thirteen diabetes-specialists from eight Asia-Pacific (APAC) countries/regions convened to formulate evidence-based, APAC-specific CGM recommendations for individuals with diabetes.

Members of academic societies for specialists in interventional radiology, endocrinology, and endocrine surgery collaborated to develop the first consensus regarding thyroid RFA in Taiwan. The modified Delphi method was used to reach a consensus.

Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) for HCV have a high treatment success rate and can significantly reduce the risks of short and long-term complications of HCV infection. However, despite the evidence of the association between diabetes and HCV and the benefits of anti-HCV treatment, previously published guidelines did not focus on the universal HCV screening for patients with diabetes and their subsequent management once confirmed as having HCV viremia.

A higher concentration of urine exosomal thyroglobulin protein was found in late-stage patients with thyroid carcinoma compared to those with early stage in our previous study. This prospective study aims to find new prognostic biomarkers before surgery for decision-making with this platform.

Context: There is a medical need for effective insulin-independent antidiabetic drugs that can promote pancreatic β-cell function and have a low risk of hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. R-form verapamil (R-Vera), which is able to enhance the survival of β-cells and has higher cardiovascular safety margin compared with racemic verapamil, was developed as a novel approach for T2DM treatment.
Objective: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 3 dosages of R-Vera added to ongoing metformin therapy in T2DM patients who had inadequate glycemic control on metformin alone.
Objective: Concurrent autonomous cortisol secretion (ACS) in patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) is being reported more frequently. Several somatic mutations including PRKACA, GNAS, and CTNNB1 were identified in cortisol-producing adenomas (CPAs). The presence of these mutations in unilateral PA (uPA) patients concurrent with ACS (uPA/ACS) is not well known.

In addition, we investigated physicians' decision-making process and treatment of T2DM patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Finally, we wanted to determine whether physicians knew the latest recommendations for T2DM treatment.

In addition to surgery, local therapeutic measures can be valuable. Here, we present the case of a 33-year-old woman who developed left retroperitoneal local recurrent ACC with hepatic and pulmonary metastases 1 year after radical adrenalectomy.

The program aims to support the professional development of early-career hospital pharmacists, in both clinical and non-clinical roles. Pharmacy educators are usually tasked with the implementation and maintenance of this program.

However, the inherent difficulty caused by the narrow manipulation angle makes this operation difficult, especially during lymph node dissection. The intrinsic advantage of the da Vinci robotic system might offset this difficulty, maintaining adequate surgical quality with risks of surgical complications equal to those by the conventional four-port robotic approach.
