Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how computer-based patient decision aids (PDAs) help patients with chronic diseases by analyzing their composition and effectiveness.
  • A systematic review involving randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted, with 22 studies included that showed PDAs positively impacted decision conflict and knowledge, but not other factors like decision regret or quality of life.
  • Despite low evidence quality, the findings suggest that PDAs can enhance shared decision-making in healthcare, highlighting the need for further research to strengthen these conclusions.

Background: Despite the significant impact of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy on the quality of life for breast cancer survivors, there is a notable lack of comprehensive research. Therefore, a crucial need exists for further systematic investigation and inquiry into this matter.

Aims: This study examined predictors of quality of life in breast cancer survivors with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.

Purpose: This study explored symptom clusters (SCs) and predominant symptoms in lymphoma survivorships at least 1 month after treatment.

Methods: A cross-sectional trend study design was adopted. Inclusion criteria were participants who were over the age of 20, diagnosed with lymphoma, and 1 month after treatment concluded.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the symptom profiles and predominant symptoms in newly diagnosed breast cancer women before and after receiving docetaxel chemotherapy.

Methods: A pre-post study recruited adult women with stage I-III breast cancer undergoing docetaxel chemotherapy using convenience sampling. The 13-item symptom severity subscale of the M.

Background: Excessive gestational weight gain and emotional eating may be associated with postpartum depression symptoms. This study was designed to identify how gestational weight gain and eating behaviors are related to postpartum depression (PPD) symptoms among women in Taiwan.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2022 to October 2022 with 318 postpartum women recruited in Taipei, Taiwan.

Aims: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy limits cancer survivors' compliance with chemotherapy and impaired function. This study aimed to examine separate impacts of clinician-assessed, patient-reported sensory and motor chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy on physical/role function and functional interference in advanced colorectal cancer survivors receiving chemotherapy.

Methods: A cross-sectional, correlational design utilizing convenience sampling enrolled 75 stage III or IV colorectal cancer adults undergoing chemotherapy.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the subgroups of symptom severity and impact of their trajectories on quality of life in lymphoma survivors.

Methods: Secondary data were analysed from a prospective study with four-time measures: before treatment (T1), during treatment (T2), treatment completion (T3) and 10 weeks after treatment (T4). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, group-based trajectory model and generalised estimation equation.

Because nurse aides are one of the first-line care providers in hospitals, they should possess better knowledge, attitude, and behavioral intention toward COVID-19 during the pandemic. This study aimed to compare the improvements of COVID-19-related education on learning outcomes between multimedia-based and traditional face-to-face learning models for nurse aides. The parallel-group randomized controlled trial recruited 74 participants in both the experimental and control groups.

Article Synopsis
  • Fucoidan is a dietary supplement often used by cancer patients, but there are no established clinical guidelines for its use, prompting this study to assess its effectiveness.
  • A systematic literature review found four studies involving 118 participants (mostly with metastatic colorectal and gastric cancer), revealing some positive outcomes but significant methodological differences that hindered definitive conclusions.
  • The review concludes that while fucoidan may have potential benefits for survival and treatment duration, the overall clinical outcomes are inconsistent, and further research is needed to clarify its effects.

Background: Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a common symptom in colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors and patients with diabetes. However, the differences in PN symptoms between CRC survivors and patients with diabetes are not clear.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in PN between CRC survivors and patients with diabetes.

Purpose: This study aimed to prospectively explore severity and prevalence of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and examine the correlation between clinician-assessed (objective) and patient-reported (subjective) CIPN in breast cancer survivors receiving taxane.

Methods: This was a prospective, longitudinal study. Purposive sampling was adapted to enroll women newly diagnosed with breast cancer and about to receive taxane.

Noctiluca scintillans, a heterotrophic dinoflagellate responsible for most of the red tides in Hong Kong waters was investigated to determine the influence of biotic and abiotic factors in determining its population dynamics. N. scintillans first occurred in January when temperature was ~17°C, and reached a maximum of 1980cellsL one month later.

An optical logic NOT gate (OLNG) is presented based on photonic crystal (PhC) waveguides without nonlinear materials and optical amplifiers. Also, a way of determining the operating parameters is presented. It is demonstrated through finite-difference time-domain simulations that the structure presented can operate as an OLNG.

We propose an all-optical half adder based on two different cross structures in two-dimensional photonic crystals. One cross structure contains nonlinear materials and functions as an "AND" logic gate. The other one only contains linear materials and acts as an "XOR" logic gate.

Catanionic vesicles are considered a potential alternative to liposomes for drug delivery systems because of their greater stability and lower cost. Before using catanionic vesicles in vivo, their interactions with macrophages must be fully understood because they are primarily removed from circulation by the macrophages of the mononuclear phagocyte system. Using flow cytometry, we examined the intracellular responses-reactive oxygen species (ROS) content, mitochondrial membrane potential, cell size and complexity, and cell cycle profiles-in U-937 human macrophages treated with positively charged catanionic vesicles.
