Background: this study reports on the effectiveness of sitagliptin in Asian Indian type 2 diabetes patients seen at a tertiary diabetes care center who had inadequate glycemic control with oral hypoglycemic agents either alone or in combination, compared to a group of patients who received insulin glargine.

Patients And Methods: patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (n = 2,817) whose glycemia was not controlled adequately (glycated hemoglobin >6.5%) with oral hypoglycemic agents (either alone or in combination) received oral sitagliptin 100 mg once daily in addition to existing therapy for a period of 24 weeks.

Background: This study reports on the effectiveness of exenatide compared to insulin glargine or NPH insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, unable to achieve glycemic control with oral glucose-lowering therapies in a clinical care setting.

Patients And Methods: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (n = 47) whose glycemia was not controlled adequately with oral hypoglycemic agents at maximum recommended therapeutic doses were initiated on exenatide therapy. Age-, sex-, and body mass index-matched patients receiving insulin glargine (n = 54) or NPH insulin (n = 23) served as controls.

Background: We aimed to assess the effect of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) therapy in patients with "recalcitrant diabetes" whose glycemia had not been controlled adequately with multiple daily injections of insulin or insulin plus oral hypoglycemic agents.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients with diabetes who were initiated on insulin pump therapy at our center in India between 2002 and 2007. Data analysis included fasting and postprandial blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) values, insulin requirement, body weight, and the occurrence of hypoglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis.
