We conducted a spatial case-control study nested in a dengue incidence cohort to explore the role of the spatial and socioeconomic factors in the proportion of symptomatic (cases) and inapparent primary dengue virus infections (controls). Cohort participants were children and adolescents (2 to 16 years of age) at the beginning of the follow-up. Case definitions were, for symptomatic cases, fever plus a positive lab result for acute dengue (NS1, RT-PCR, ELISA IgM/IgG), and for inapparent infection a positive result for dengue IgG (ELISA) in subjects without symptoms and with a previously negative result at baseline.

A new concept for minimally invasive treatment involves abdominal laparoscopic surgery performed while the patient breathes independently without losing consciousness. Here we report the first series of laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) performed under neuroaxial anesthesia (NA). From May 2021 to September 2022 we prospectively enrolled selected patients with an organ-confined single renal mass to undergo LPN under NA.

Objective: Neuraxial anesthesia (NA) showed to reduce both morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery. We aimed to investigate the use of NA in patients undergoing transperitoneal three-dimensional laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (t-3DLRP) and compare the intraoperative and postoperative outcomes with a control group of patients undergoing t-3DLRP under general anesthesia (GA).

Methods: A prospective, double-center, double-surgeon study cohort of 84 consecutive patients undergoing t-3DLRP between June 2019 and June 2021 was analyzed.

Identification and classification of high-risk areas for the presence of Aedes aegypti is not an easy task. To develop suitable methods to identify this areas is an essential task that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of control measures and to optimize the use of resources. The objectives of this study were to identify high- risk areas for the presence of Ae.

Objective: To review the empirical consequences of the use of geoprocessing in the management of primary health care (PHC) services, in order to disseminate the benefits of this technology and analyze the challenges that must be overcome for its contribution to the development of PHC.

Methods: A systematic review of primary studies published in Spanish, English or Portuguese between 2000 and 2017 was carried out. First, a review of the academic production was carried out by continent and type of objective.

The objective of this study was to determine of oral and oropharynx cancer mortality rate and the results were analyzed by applying the Spatial Analysis of Empirical Bayesian Model. To this end, we used the information contained in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), Chapter II, Category C00 to C14 and Brazilian Mortality Information System (SIM) of Minas Gerais State. Descriptive statistics were observed and the gross rate of mortality was calculated for each municipality.

We describe the discovery of Aedes aegypti underground breeding site in the Pinheiros neighborhood of São Paulo, SP, during an entomological survey program performed in 2016. Even with intense surveillance and vector control, large numbers of mosquitoes were present in this area. A detailed investigation allowed for the detection of Ae.

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is the most common infectious disease in the world. We aimed to analyze the spatial risk of tuberculosis mortality and to verify associations in high-risk areas with social vulnerability.

Methods: This was an ecological study.

Objective: To perform both space and space-time evaluations of visceral leishmaniasis in humans in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Methods: The population considered in the study comprised autochthonous cases of visceral leishmaniasis and deaths resulting from it in Sao Paulo, between 1999 and 2013. The analysis considered the western region of the state as its studied area.

Ultra-thin CaF2 layers are grown on the Si(1 0 0) surface by using a Knudsen cell evaporator. These epitaxial structures are studied with a low temperature (9 K) scanning tunneling microscope and used to electronically decouple hexaphenyl molecules from the Si surface. We show that the ultra-thin CaF2 layers exhibit stripe structures oriented perpendicularly to the silicon dimer rows and have a surface gap of 3.

Purpose: This paper describes a novel method to automatically segment the human brainstem into midbrain and pons, called labs: Landmark-based Automated Brainstem Segmentation. LABS processes high-resolution structural magnetic resonance images (MRIs) according to a revised landmark-based approach integrated with a thresholding method, without manual interaction.

Methods: This method was first tested on morphological T1-weighted MRIs of 30 healthy subjects.

In spite of the amount of literature demonstrating the relationship between upper and lower airways, both from the anatomical, and pathophysiological point of view, little is known about the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of the Rhino-Bronchial Syndrome (RBS). After the publication, in 2003, of a Consensus Report defining the Rhino-Bronchial Syndrome, an interdisciplinary group of experts made up from the Italian ENT Society (SIO) and the Interdisciplinary Scientific Association for the Study of Respiratory Diseases (AIMAR) met again in 2005 in order to study a protocol which would have, as the main tasks, the analysis of RBS signs and symptoms and standardization of the diagnostic approach. A secondary endpoint was to characterize the most effective therapeutic options and to correct the great dyshomogeneity in the therapeutic approaches.

Molecular machines, and in particular molecular motors with synthetic molecular structures and fuelled by external light, voltage or chemical conversions, have recently been reported. Most of these experiments are carried out in solution with a large ensemble of molecules and without access to one molecule at a time, a key point for future use of single molecular machines with an atomic scale precision. Therefore, to experiment on a single molecule-machine, this molecule has to be adsorbed on a surface, imaged and manipulated with the tip of a scanning tunnelling microscope (STM).

We studied the epidemiology of giant cell arteritis (GCA) and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) in a Mediterranean population. Ninety-nine patients with PMR and/or GCA were identified over a 9-year period (1980-1988) in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The average annual incidence of PMR and GCA was 12.

Among the population of Reggio Emilia, Italy, 56 patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA) were identified during the 5-year period 1981-85. The average annual incidence rates of PR and GCA were 12.8 and 8.
