Ferric Carboxymaltose in the Treatment of Iron-Deficiency Anaemia in Paediatric Patients with Anastomotic Ulcers.

Objectives: The aim of this paper is to describe a case series of paediatric patients affected by anastomotic ulcers (AU), a late complication of bowel resection in infancy, focusing on the treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia (IDA) with ferric carboxymaltose (FC).

Methods: Patients with a diagnosis of AU, treated at the Paediatric Department of the Institute for Maternal and Child Health IRCCS "Burlo Garofolo" from February 2012 to December 2020 were included. Haemoglobin (Hb) values, IDA related symptoms, the need for blood transfusions, for oral or intravenous (iv) iron supplementation and for surgical resections were compared before and after treatment with FC.

The Role of Distress and Pain Catastrophizing on the Health-related Quality of Life of Children With Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Objectives: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can be particularly challenging during the pediatric age with a relevant impact on patient's health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Disease activity accounts for only a small part of the variability in HRQoL, and psychological factors can play a significant role. We aimed to evaluate the impact of patient's distress and pain catastrophizing on children and adolescents with IBD.

Risk Factors and Outcomes of Thalidomide-induced Peripheral Neuropathy in a Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Cohort.

Background: Thalidomide is an effective therapy in children with inflammatory bowel disease refractory to standard treatments, but thalidomide-induced peripheral neuropathy (TiPN) limits its long-term use. We aimed to investigate the risk factors and the outcome of TiPN in children with inflammatory bowel disease.

Methods: Within a retrospective multicenter cohort study, we evaluated prevalence and evolution of TiPN.
