Background: Patients with cancer who are infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are more likely to develop severe illness and die compared with those without cancer. The impact of immune checkpoint inhibition (ICI) on the severity of COVID-19 illness is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate whether ICI confers an additional risk for severe COVID-19 in patients with cancer.

von Willebrand factor (VWF), a multimeric protein with a central role in hemostasis, has been shown to interact with complement components. However, results are contrasting and inconclusive. By studying 20 patients with congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (cTTP) who cannot cleave VWF multimers because of genetic deficiency, we investigated the mechanism through which VWF modulates complement and its pathophysiological implications for human diseases.

The pathophysiology of glomerular lesions of membranous nephropathy (MN), including seldom-reported IgG4-related disease, is still elusive. Unlike in idiopathic MN where IgG4 prevails, in this patient IgG3 was predominant in glomerular deposits in the absence of circulating anti-phospholipase A2 receptor antibodies, suggesting a distinct pathologic process. Here we documented that IgG4 retrieved from the serum of our propositus reacted against carbonic anhydrase II (CAII) at the podocyte surface.
