Patients with severe aortic stenosis are increasingly treated with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as a safer option to surgical aortic valve replacement (sAVR). Similar to many other heart diseases, after the specific therapeutic intervention patients are eligible for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) for the purpose of functional recovery. Thus far, CR after both sAVR and TAVI has been used to a limited extent, as shown by the availability of only two meta-analyses including 5 studies and 6 studies, respectively.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAgriculture and animal husbandry are important contributors to global emissions of greenhouse (GHG) and acidifying gases. Moreover, they contribute to water pollution and to consumption of non-renewable natural resources such as land and energy. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology allows evaluation of the environmental impact of a process from the production of inputs to the final product and to assess simultaneously several environmental impact categories among which GHG emissions, acidification, eutrophication, land use and energy use.

The aim of this study was the validation of a subjective method widely called the Talk Test (TT) for optimization of training intensity in patients with recent myocardial revascularization.
Design And Methods: Fifty patients with recent myocardial revascularization (17 by coronary artery bypass grafting and 33 by percutaneous coronary intervention) were enrolled in a cardiac rehabilitation programme.
Background & Aims: It is uncertain whether mucosal healing after the first course of corticosteroids therapy predicts outcome in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). We evaluated whether early clinical and endoscopic responses to this therapy are associated with late outcomes in UC.
Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed UC who were prescribed corticosteroid therapy (n = 157) were followed up for 5 years.
Background: Three common mutations in the NOD2/CARD15 gene are strongly associated with Crohn's disease (CD). NOD2 is an intracellular receptor of muramyl dipeptide (MDP), a component of peptidoglycan present in the cell wall of gram-positive (G+) and gram-negative (G-) bacteria.
Methods: We generated monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MoDCs) from CD patients mutated or not for CARD15 (n = 53) or from healthy donors (n = 12) and analyzed their activation in response to live Salmonella typhimurium as a model of pathogenic G- bacteria.
