Article Synopsis
  • The study demonstrates the self-assembly of shape-persistent tetra-imine cages using specific calix[4]pyrrole scaffolds and examines their behavior in different solvent conditions.
  • The presence of a bis-oxide template enhances reaction yields but isn't essential for cage formation, while H NMR spectroscopy reveals the binding properties and stability of these cages with pyridine-oxide derivatives.
  • The formation of inclusion complexes varies with solvent type, and the study presents insights into the kinetics and mechanism of guest exchange processes within the tetra-imine cages.

We disclose the results of our investigations on the influence that the insertion method of aryl-extended calix[4]pyrrole into liposomal membranes exerts on their properties as anion carriers. We use the standard HPTS assay to assess the transport properties of the carriers. We show that the post-insertion of the carrier, as DMSO solution, assigns better transport activities to the "two-wall" α,α-aryl-extended calix[4]pyrrole 1 compared to the "four-wall" α,α,α,α-counterpart 2.
