Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how the expression of 51 genes in the liver of mice changes based on the dose of two genotoxic compounds, DEN and ENU, using quantitative real-time PCR.
  • Both carcinogens showed similar dose-dependent increases in gene expression at 4 hours post-treatment, with 21 genes identified as strongly responding to DEN and ENU, although ENU's effects were generally less pronounced.
  • Five gene networks related to cancer processes, cell cycle regulation, and DNA repair were identified, confirming the lasting impact of these compounds on gene expression both shortly after treatment and 28 days later.

Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is involved in purine metabolism and plays an important role in the mechanism of the immune system. ADA activity is composed of two kinetically distinct isozymes, which are referred to as ADA1 and ADA2. ADA1 is widely distributed in many animals and well characterized.

A new beige-like coat color mutant was identified in the ACI/N rat colony. Other features characteristic of beige mutants, such as giant granule cells in various tissues, and prolonged bleeding time were also observed. The genetic complementation test, mating beige-like mutant with the authentic beige mutant rat, DA/Ham-Lystbg, revealed that the mutant gene is allelic to Lystbg.
