Background: Over the past few decades, several studies have found that semen quality parameters have steadily declined over time. Many hypotheses have been made to explain this finding, among which a sedentary lifestyle has been investigated. To synthesize the current evidence, we performed a systematic review of published papers reporting on the relationship between sedentary habits and semen parameters.

Objective: To compare patient satisfaction rate in postmenopausal women who chose dynamic quadripolar radiofrequency or topical estrogens as their preferred treatment for genitourinary syndrome of menopause.

Methods: Patients were divided into two groups according to their preference: one was treated with estrogen therapy (ET) and the other with dynamic quadripolar radiofrequency treatment (RF). All patients included fulfilled a series of validated questionnaires, at baseline and at the 6-mo follow-up, in order to evaluate the discomfort degree associated with the presence of vulvovaginal atrophy and the impact of the reported symptoms on QoL and sexuality.

Introduction: Peritoneal infiltrating and fibrotic endometriosis, also known as deep endometriosis, is the most severe manifestation of the disease that can cause severe complications including bowel and ureteral stenosis. The natural history of these lesions and the possible effect of hormonal treatments on their progression are undefined. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate whether and how frequently deep endometriosis progresses over time without or with ovarian suppression.

The definition of the association between ovarian cancer and endometriosis was first reported by Sampson in 1925. He identified the following criteria: (a) clear evidence of endometriosis in proximity to the tumour, (b) exclusion of a metastatic tumour to the ovary, (c) presence of tissue resembling endometrial stroma surrounding epithelial glands. The naming of these cancers is "endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer" (EAOC).

Background: A secular trend towards earlier age at menarche has been reported, but the trend in breast development is less clear. We reviewed the evidence on the relationship between in utero and early life events and breast onset/development.

Methods: Eligible studies were identified in PubMed and Embase databases.

Background: Since the 1970s, several studies found that sperm concentration (SC) and total sperm count (TSC) constantly worsened over time, mainly in high-income countries.

Objectives: To evaluate whether the decreasing trend in sperm count is continuing in Western European countries and USA, we performed a systematic review and meta-regression analysis.

Materials And Methods: Embase and Pubmed/Medline were searched papers published in English in the 2000-2020 period limiting the search to data collected in the USA and Western European countries.

Endometriosis is a complex and chronic disease, whose multifactorial nature has encouraged a deep investigation on the role of lifestyle factors. A strong association between alcohol intake and endometriosis risk has already been shown. We aimed to confirm this association, considering the updated literature.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to determine the prevalence of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and its different phenotypes in Europe and the USA, focusing on similar diagnostic resources and health attitudes.
  • The overall PCOS prevalence rates were found to be 6.2%, 19.5%, and 15.0% based on various diagnostic criteria, with little variation across regions.
  • The study revealed a notable increase in PCOS prevalence over time, attributed to evolving diagnostic standards, while also highlighting differences in the frequency of PCOS phenotypes between Europe and the USA, specifically more cases of "complete PCOS" and fewer cases of "ovulatory PCOS" in the USA.

Iron (Fe) status among healthy male and female blood donors, aged 18-65 years, is estimated. General characteristics and lifestyle factors, dietary habits and major one-carbon metabolism-related polymorphisms were also investigated. An explorative cross-sectional study design was used to examine a sample of blood donors attending the Transfusion Medicine Unit of the Verona University Hospital, Italy.

Several studies, reviews and meta-analyses have documented that D-mannose use lowers the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI), but its role in the treatment of UTI/cystitis-related symptoms is unclear. In particular, no systematic review has analyzed the role of treatment with D-mannose in acute UTI/cystitis. In this paper, we systematically reviewed the published data on the effect of D-mannose, alone or in association with other compounds, on the typical symptoms of UTI/cystitis.

Objective: To summarise the available evidence on frequency of ovarian cyst development during mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors (mTORi) treatment.

Methods: PubMed/Medline and EMBASE databases were searched, from 1990 up to March 2020, using the following keywords: 'tacrolimus', 'sirolimus', 'temsirolimus', 'everolimus', 'deforolimus', 'mTOR' and 'ovarian cysts' (Limit: Human, English, full article). Studies were selected for the review if they met the following criteria: clinical studies, studies reporting original data, studies reporting the number of patients using mTORi, studies reporting the number of patients with ovarian cysts.

Background: Over the past years medical centres specifically addressed in gender-based violence have developed protocols for the collections of evidence useful in the courtroom, including accurate documentation of physical and psychological states of the victim and collection of samples. Previous studies showed an association between documented physical trauma and conviction but unfortunately, few studies in the recent literature analysed the factors that influence the legal outcome and final judgement. The present study focused on the elements that appeared of significance in the legal outcome, including medico-legal evaluation, source of the crime report and circumstance of the assault.

Purpose: Irritable bowel disease and endometriosis are two common diseases characterized by chronic inflammation state and recurrent abdominal pain. As a consequence of sharing of symptoms and chronic inflammation, endometriosis and IBS may coexist and be misdiagnosed and this leads to delays in diagnosis, mismanagement, and unnecessary testing. In recent years, some studies have found higher risk of IBS in women with endometriosis, compared to women without endometriosis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined restless legs syndrome (RLS) in pregnant women in Northern Italy, finding that 20.4% of 648 participants met the criteria for RLS, highlighting its significant prevalence in this population.
  • - Women aged 35 and older had a 1.69 times higher risk of RLS, and factors like insufficient sleep (2.35 times higher risk) and difficulty starting sleep (1.73 times higher risk) were linked to increased RLS occurrences during pregnancy.
  • - The findings suggest that screening for RLS in pregnant women could be beneficial for managing the condition, and further research is recommended to explore its effects on maternal and fetal health.
