A fungal polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplifies conserved genes across diverse species, combined with the subsequent hybridization of amplicons using a specific oligonucleotide microarray, allowing for the rapid detection of pathogens at the species level. However, the performance of microarrays in diagnosing invasive mold infections (IMI) from infected tissue samples is rarely reported. During the 4-year study period, all biopsied tissue samples from patients with a suspected IMI sent for microarray assays were analyzed.

Event-driven (ED) PrEP has been the most prevalent dosing regimen among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in Taiwan, providing a unique setting to observe the preferences for long-acting PrEP in a community where the daily regimen is not the mainstream method. This study aimed to determine the preferences for the different forms and dosing intervals of long-acting PrEP that are currently in the development pipeline.

This article uses an object-oriented approach-following the use and flow of social apps, syringes and antiretroviral therapy (ART)-to analyse gay and bisexual Taiwanese men's drug practices. Interview data from fourteen men are used to articulate how objects were brought into gay and bisexual men's chemsex repertoire in ways that shaped individuals' safe-sex communication, intimacy maintenance and stigma negotiation.

Objectives: Real-world experience with coformulated bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) is sparse as a switch regimen among people living with HIV (PLWH) having achieved viral suppression after previous virologic failures with the emergence of K65N/R.
Methods: In this retrospective study, PLWH aged ≥20 years who had previous virologic failures with emergent K65N/R were included for switching to BIC/FTC/TAF after having achieved plasma HIV RNA load (PVL) <200 copies/ml for ≥3 months. PLWH were excluded if integrase inhibitor resistance-associated mutations were detected.
Numerous studies have identified an association between the use of drugs in sexual contexts (chemsex) and HIV among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), although whether a causal relationship exists is contentious. An intricate relationship exists between chemsex, HIV treatment and prevention, harm reduction, and the provision of community-grounded health services. Furthermore, potential harms exist beyond HIV, such as intoxication and overdose.

The app was designed to accommodate a rather complicated event-driven dosing schedule. We aim to evaluate the usability of the UPrEPU app and its effectiveness in improving adherence monitoring.

This success can be attributed to the long experiences dealing with natural disasters and communicable diseases. However, with different disastrous characteristics, the disaster management systems for communicable diseases and natural disasters are very different in terms of laws, plans, frameworks, and emergency operations.

This prospective study aimed to investigate the clinical and microbiological characteristics of different species. Clinical isolates of species between 2016 to 2018 were collected in a university hospital in southern Taiwan. The species was determined by or sequencing.

This impact has disproportionately affected LMICs (lower- and/or middle-income countries), already burdened by a lack of neurosurgical resources. Thus, a systematic review was conducted to examine these challenges and innovations developed to adapt effective teaching and learning for medical students and neurosurgical trainees.

Background: Atherosclerosis and vascular inflammatory response have been considered as risk factors for non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) vascular infection. The study aims to assess the risk of vascular infection by measuring atherosclerosis severity, NTS vascular infection (NTSVI) score, and serum levels of inflammatory markers in people with NTS bacteremia.
Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted in two medical centers and two regional hospitals.
Introduction: Both daily and event-driven (ED) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) have been demonstrated to be highly effective among men who have sex with men (MSM). Prevention-effective adherence proposes that PrEP adherence should be aligned with the risk of HIV, which could be applied to both daily and ED PrEP adherence measurement. The objective of this study was to describe the relationship between the use of PrEP and sex events among the MSM PrEP users and identify factors associated with adherence among daily and ED MSM PrEP users.

Methods: 83 paediatric patients undergoing VP shunt insertion between February 2013 and July 2019 were retrospectively identified. Patient demographics, presence of pre-operative extra ventricular drain (EVD), pre-operative CSF results, and intra-operative CSF results were identified from patient case notes and electronic clinical databases.
Background: Sexualized drug use or "chemsex" in Taiwan commonly incorporates the use of methamphetamine. Our study aimed to assess the extent of severity of dependence of methamphetamine among MSM in Taiwan as well as motivations for engagement in chemsex.
Methods: Direct messages were sent to users of a large MSM social networking application in Taiwan between November 2018 and January 2019.
The application of cefepime breakpoint for carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) bacteraemia has not been explored. Adult cases of monomicrobial bloodstream infection (BSI) caused by cefepime-susceptible [minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ≤8 mg/L] K. pneumoniae isolates with carbapenem resistance between 2010 and 2015 were reviewed.

More than half of the MSM PrEP users in Taiwan prefer on-demand PrEP; however, on-demand PrEP involves a complicated dosing regimen because it requires precoital and postcoital dosing and sex events are hard to anticipate. Although there are a growing number of mobile apps designed to improve access to HIV prevention services and HIV medication adherence, few mobile apps focus on adherence to PrEP or are designed to accommodate a complicated, on-demand PrEP dosing schedule.

Identifying risk factors for delineating the trends in repeat syphilis are essential for STI and HIV prevention. This study is to investigate the dynamic of the syphilis epidemic among HIV-infected patients and to identify the risk factors associated with repeat syphilis.

The study objective was to describe the switches between dosing regimens and identify factors that predict choice of a dosing regimen among MSM. We performed a multi-center, observational, prospective PrEP cohort study conducted at three study sites in Taiwan between January 2018 and March 2019.
