Background: In the context of increasing doctor-patient tensions in China, the objective of this study was to explore and examine the effects of loving-kindness meditation (LKM) on doctors' mindfulness, empathy, and communication skills.

Mandala drawing was first practiced by Tibetan buddhists and then developed by Carl Gustav Jung, who felt certain that mandala drawing has the function of integrating psychological division, enhancing psychological harmony, and preserving personality integrity. Previous studies on mandala drawing have mainly focused on alleviating people's negative emotions, such as anxiety and depression. Telomerase reverse transcriptase promotes cancer cell proliferation by augmenting tRNA expression.

Transcriptional reactivation of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) reconstitutes telomerase activity in the majority of human cancers. Here, we found that ectopic TERT expression increases cell proliferation, while acute reductions in TERT levels lead to a dramatic loss of proliferation without any change in telomere length, suggesting that the effects of TERT could be telomere independent. We observed that TERT determines the growth rate of cancer cells by directly regulating global protein synthesis independently of its catalytic activity.

1-(3,5-Dimethoxyphenyl)-4-[(6-fluoro-2-methoxyquinoxalin-3-yl)aminocarbonyl] piperazine (RX-5902) exhibits strong growth inhibition in various human cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging between 10 and 20 nM. In this study, we demonstrate that p68 RNA helicase is a cellular target of RX-5902 by the drug affinity responsive target stability (DARTS) method, and confirmed the direct binding of (3) H-labeled RX-5902 to Y593 phospho-p68 RNA helicase. We further demonstrated RX-5902 inhibited the β-catenin dependent ATPase activity of p68 RNA helicase in an in vitro system.

ToF-SIMS imaging of the nanoscale phase separation in polymeric light emitting diodes: effect of nanostructure on device efficiency.

The nanostructure of the light emissive layer (EL) of polymer light emitting diodes (PLEDs) was investigated using force modulation microscopy (FMM) and scanning time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) excited with focused Bi(3)(2+) primary beam. Three-dimensional nanostructures were reconstructed from high resolution ToF-SIMS images acquired with different C(60)(+) sputtering times. The observed nanostructure is related to the efficiency of the PLED.

By using 10 kV C(60)(+) and 200 V Ar(+) ion co-sputtering, a crater was created on the light-emitting layer of phosphorescent polymer light-emitting diodes, which consisted of a poly(9-vinyl carbazole) (PVK) host doped with a 24 wt % iridium(III)bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)pyridinato-N,C(2)] (FIrpic) guest. A force modulation microscope (FMM) was used to analyze the nanostructure at the flat slope near the edge of the crater. The three-dimensional distribution of PVK and FIrpic was determined based on the difference in their mechanical properties from FMM.

Solution processable fullerene and copolymer bulk heterojunctions are widely used as the active layers of solar cells. In this work, scanning time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) is used to examine the distribution of [6,6]phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) and regio-regular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (rrP3HT) that forms the bulk heterojunction. The planar phase separation of P3HT:PCBM is observed by ToF-SIMS imaging.
