Fingerprint orientation field (OF) estimation is important for basic fingerprint image processing and impacts the accuracy of fingerprint image enhancements, such as Gabor filters. In this article, we introduce an OF estimation algorithm based on differential values of grayscale intensity and examine the accuracy and reliability of the proposed algorithm by applying it to fingerprint images processed using Gaussian blurring and the Gaussian white noise process. The experimental results indicate that the OF estimation reliability of the proposed algorithm is higher than the gradient-based method and the power spectral density (PSD) based method in low quality fingerprints.

Unlabelled: The objective of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy against and and in vivo toxicity using embryonic zebrafish assays of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and electrolyzed oxidizing (EO) water (containing hypochlorous acid (HOCl))-based root canal irrigating solutions.

Methodology: Using 100 μL microbial count of 1 × 10 cfu/mL to mix with each 10 mL specimen of NaOCl or HOCl for designed time periods. The above protocol was also repeated for .

The extensive use of antibiotics in medicine results in the multidrug resistance of bacteria, making the development of new antimicrobial agents an urgent need. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are considered as a new class of antibiotic with characteristics including an ability to kill target cells rapidly and a broad spectrum of activity. We have developed a potent antimicrobial peptide MAP-0403 (MIC = 5 μM), but it exhibited a high hemolytic side-effect (70.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a novel biosensing strategy that combines surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoprobes with a microfluidic device to quickly detect pathogens like Salmonella and Neisseria.
  • The SERS nanoprobes are created by attaching specific antibodies to silica-coated nanoparticles, which enhance Raman signals for accurate identification of bacteria at low concentrations, even down to a single bacterium.
  • This method is faster and more sensitive than traditional ELISA tests, allowing for a total assay time of under 2 hours while using significantly less antibody.

This study presents the chemical composition of dry deposition by using dry deposition plate and water surfaces sampler during daytime and nighttime sampling periods at a near highway traffic sampling site. In addition, the characterization for mass and water soluble species of total suspended particulate (TSP), PM2.5 and PM10 were also studied at this sampling site during August 22 to October 31 of 2006 around central Taiwan.
