Background: Accumulating data suggest that mucosal melanoma, well known for its poor response to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) and abysmal prognosis, is a heterogeneous subtype of melanoma with distinct genomic and clinical characteristics between different anatomic locations of the primary lesions. Primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PMME) is a rare, highly aggressive disease with a poorer prognosis compared with that of non-esophageal mucosal melanoma (NEMM). In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the efficacy of anti-programmed death (PD)-1 in patients with PMME and explored its molecular basis.

In response to the current problem of the high energy consumption of direct thermal desorption systems when treating soils with a high moisture content, we propose using the waste heat of the system to pre-dry soil to reduce its moisture. Taking chlorine-organic-contaminated soil as an object, an experimental study on the drying and pollutant desorption characteristics of soil in an indirect rotary dryer was carried out. The results show that the non-isothermal drying process was divided into warm-up and falling rate periods, and no constant period was observed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAvian hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the main etiologic pathogen of chicken big liver and spleen disease which is widely prevalent in China in recent years. However, due to the lack of a highly effective culture system in vitro, a genetically engineered subunit vaccine is the main direction of vaccine development. In this study, ORF3 genes of VaHEV strain from laying hens and YT-aHEV strain from broilers were amplified, respectively, and ORF3 protein was successfully expressed by prokaryotic expression system.

The bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) is a major gene affecting the reproductive traits in sheep, and multiple mutations in BMP15 gene could affect the ovulation rate and litter size in many sheep breeds, showing high breed specificity. However, identification of novel variations and seeking breed-specific markers associated with litter size in other sheep breeds are still important.

Background: Prognosis varies among stage IV colorectal cancer (CRC). Our study aimed to build a robust prognostic nomogram for predicting overall survival (OS) of patients with stage IV CRC in order to provide evidence for individualized treatment.
Method: We collected the information of 16,283 patients with stage IV CRC in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and then randomized these patients in a ratio of 7:3 into a training cohort and an internal validation cohort.
Aroma is an important economic trait of vegetable soybeans, which greatly influences their market value. The 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP) is considered as an important substance affecting the aroma of plants. Although the 2AP synthesis pathway has been resolved, the differences of the 2AP synthesis in the aromatic and non-aromatic vegetable soybeans are unknown.

The emergence of nanozymes greatly enhanced the detection sensitivity and stability of the colorimetric sensing platform. Recent significant research has focused on designing various sensors based on nanozymes with peroxidase-like activity for colorimetric analysis.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA novel food packaging film was developed by incorporating a tea polyphenols-loaded pullulan/trehalose (TP@Pul/Tre) into a composite film with ultrasound-assisted treatment of dual-frequency (20/35 kHz, 40 W/L) for 15 min to assess the physicochemical and mechanical properties of a composite film. The optimized ultrasound-assisted significantly increases elongation at break, tensile strength, and improves the composite film's UV/water/oxygen barrier properties. Structure analysis using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction and thermal stability revealed that these improvements were achieved through ultrasound-enhanced H-bonds, more ordered molecular arrangements, and good intermolecular compatibility.

Herein, we report a dish-like molecular architecture via a bottom-up way, featuring guest-responsive dynamic URTP. Through controlling local fragment motions in the molecular architecture, fascinating dynamic URTP performances can be achieved in response to reversible accommodation of various guests, including solvents, alkyl bromides and even carbon dioxide.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the external auditory canal (EACSCC) is an uncommon tumor and responsible for no more than 0.2% of all the head and neck malignancies. Although there is remarkable research evidence exhibiting that high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) accounts for considerable head and neck malignancies, its role in the pathogenesis of EACSCC is yet to be determined.

Considering the huge detection demand, it has emerged that robots replace manual sample collection. However, the cost-effectiveness of nucleic acid collection by robots instead of humans remain unknown.

Abnormal neovascularization is an important cause of blindness in many ocular diseases, for which the etiology and pathogenic mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Recent studies have revealed the diverse roles of noncoding RNAs in various biological processes and facilitated the research and development of the clinical application of numerous RNA drugs, including microRNAs. Here, we report the antiangiogenic activity of microRNA-29a (miR-29a) in three animal models of ocular neovascularization.

Specifically, miR-129-2-3p was used as a ligation template to facilitate its ligation with padlock probes, followed by an RCA reaction in the presence of phi29 DNA polymerase. The dsDNA fragments and products were stained by SYBR Green I and then detected by fluorescence spectrophotometry.

This study aims to solve the issues of slow growth, biomass harvest, and phytohormone costs altogether by supplementing low dosage phytohormones in an improved capillary-driven attached cultivation device. The device displayed nutrients-condensing properties, and dosages of indole acetic acid (IAA), 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA), and salicylic acid (SA) for highest microalgal growth were respectively 10 M, 10 M, and 10 M, being at least one order of magnitude lower than in suspended cultures.
