- Postoperative pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a significant challenge, and this study investigates the combined effects of intravenous and local periarticular corticosteroids on pain management.
- In a double-blinded trial with 46 patients, one knee received both IV steroids and local infiltration, while the other only received IV steroids, showing better pain relief and quicker recovery in the combined treatment group.
- Results indicated significantly reduced pain levels and improved mobility in knees receiving both types of corticosteroids without increasing wound complications, suggesting an effective approach to enhance recovery post-TKA.
Although local infiltration analgesia (LIA) is effective in relieving pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA), its effect is short lasting and the optimal combination of drugs is unknown.
