In oxygenic photosynthesis, NADP+ acts as the final acceptor of the photosynthetic electron transport chain and receives electrons via the thylakoid membrane complex photosystem I (PSI) to synthesize NAPDH by the enzyme ferredoxin:NADP+ oxidoreductase. Two new fused-ring electron acceptor (FREA) isomers with nonlinear and linear molecular conformation, m-BAIDIC and p-BAIDIC, are designed and synthesized. Despite the similar light absorption range and energy levels, the two isomers exhibit distinct electron reorganization energies and molecular packing motifs, which are directly related to the molecular conformation. Compared with the nonlinear acceptor, the linear p-BAIDIC shows more ordered molecular packing and higher crystallinity.

The tuning of vertical morphology is critical and challenging for organic solar cells (OSCs). In this work, a high open-circuit voltage (V ) binary D18-Cl/L8-BO system is attained while maintaining the high short-circuit current (J ) and fill factor (FF) by employing 1,4-diiodobenzene (DIB), a volatile solid additive. It is suggested that DIB can act as a linker between donor or/and acceptor molecules, which significantly modifies the active layer morphology.

Bioorthogonal fluorogenic dyes are indispensable tools in wash-free bioimaging of specific biological targets. However, the fluorogenicity of existing tetrazine-based bioorthogonal probes deteriorates as the emission wavelength shifts towards the NIR window, greatly limiting their applications in live cells and tissues. The triphenylamine (TPA) group is an important molecular fragment that has been widely used to design efficient hole-transporting materials (HTMs). However, the applicability of triphenylamine derived HTMs that exhibit low hole mobility and conductivity in commercial perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has been limited. To aid in the development of highly desirable TPA-based HTMs, we utilized a combination of density functional theory (DFT) and Marcus electron transfer theory to investigate the effect of heteroatoms, including boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, germanium, arsenic, and selenium atoms, on the energy levels, optical properties, hole mobility, and interfacial charge transfer behaviors of a series of HTMs.

Although doping can induce room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) in heavy-atom free organic systems, it is often challenging to match the host and guest components to achieve efficient intersystem crossing for activating RTP. In this work, we developed a simple descriptor ΔE to predict host molecules for matching the guest RTP emitters, based on the intersystem crossing via higher excited states (ISCHES) mechanism. This descriptor successfully predicted five commercially available host components to pair with naphthalimide (NA) and naphtho[2,3-c]furan-1,3-dione (2,3-NA) emitters with a high accuracy of 83 %.

Background: Probiotic lozenges have been developed to harvest the benefits of probiotics for oral health, but their long-term consumption may encourage the transfer of resistance genes from probiotics to commensals, and eventually to disease-causing bacteria.

Aim: To screen commercial probiotic lozenges for resistance to antibiotics, characterize the resistance determinants, and examine their transferability .

Results: Probiotics of all lozenges were resistant to glycopeptide, sulfonamide, and penicillin antibiotics, while some were resistant to aminoglycosides and cephalosporins.

The gene family is one of the plant transcription factors present in all seed plants. The family members were extensively studied in various plants and shown to play important roles in plant growth and development, such as the polarity establishment in lateral organs, the formation and development of leaves and flowers, and the response to internal plant hormone and external environmental stress signals. In this study, a total of 364 genes were identified from 37 Brassicaceae genomes, of which 15 were incomplete due to sequence gaps, and nine were imperfect (missing C2C2 zinc-finger or YABBY domain) due to sequence mutations.
