A case study of lethal neonatal CPT II deficiency: Novel insights from genetic analysis.

Introduction: Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase II (CPT II) deficiency encompasses a spectrum of disorders, with the lethal neonatal form (LNF) representing the rarest and most severe. While there are numerous gene variants that can cause CPT II deficiency, only 16 variants of these are known to be associated with LNF. This report presents the case of a neonatal male diagnosed with lethal CPT II deficiency, characterized by the presence of two heterogeneous variants.

Case Report: A novel hemizygous missense variant in a Vietnamese boy with pyruvate dehydrogenase E1-alpha deficiency.

A pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency causes a reduction in adenosine triphosphate production and energy insufficiency, leading to neurological disorders. An abnormal E1-alpha protein originating from the gene with pathogenic variants is unable to communicate with E1-beta for the formation of the E1 enzyme, decreasing pyruvate dehydrogenase complex activity. In this study, we report a Vietnamese boy with lethargy, severe metabolic acidosis, increased serum lactate, hyperalaninemia, lactic acidosis, and globus pallidus lesions.

Associations between dose-response of serum creatinine and type 2 diabetes mellitus risk: consistent and robust evidence from a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Hyperornithinemia-Hyperammonemia-Homocitrullinuria Syndrome in Vietnamese Patients.

: Hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria syndrome (HHH; OMIM 238970) is one of the rare urea cycle disorders. Ornithine carrier 1 deficiency causes HHH syndrome, characterized by failure of mitochondrial ornithine uptake, hyperammonemia, and accumulation of ornithine and lysine in the cytoplasm. The initial presentation and time of diagnosis in HHH highly varies.

Factors associated with self-directed learning among undergraduate nursing students in Vietnam.

Pembrolizumab-induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis in a Vietnamese patient with nonsmall-cell lung cancer.

Chemoimmunotherapy is an effective therapy for an individual with nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without anaplastic lymphoma kinase or epidermal growth factor receptor mutations. However, it can also be related to adverse cutaneous reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) with high morbidities and mortality rates. We present a case of a 65-year-old male with NSCLC who underwent first-line chemotherapy with paclitaxel, carboplatin, and pembrolizumab, which was later followed by a second cycle of the same therapies.

The Prevalence of Anemia Among Vietnamese Children: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

While anemia constitutes a prevalent health issue among children in Vietnam, comprehensive aggregate data remain scarce. Consequently, the objective of this meta-analysis is to establish the pooled prevalence of anemia in the pediatric population of Vietnam. A comprehensive systematic search of existing prevalence studies was conducted up until June 2022, encompassing databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library, as well as reference list analysis.

The first Vietnamese patient who presented late onset of pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration diagnosed by whole exome sequencing: A case report.

Rationale: Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN), also called Hallervorden-Spatz syndrome, is a rare autosomal recessive disease associated with brain iron accumulation and characterized by progressive dystonia, dementia, and dysarthria symptoms. PKAN, caused by a defective pantothenate kinase 2 (PANK2) gene, is the most common neurodegeneration with a brain iron accumulation (NBIA) group. The "eye of the tiger" sign in the magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a bilateral hyperintense signal in the basal ganglia region on T2-weighted images, which is a characteristic feature of the diagnosis.

Seasonal and Temporal Trends of Infectious Keratitis in Northern Vietnam.

The epidemiology of corneal ulcers in Vietnam has not been well characterized. In this report, we reviewed retrospectively the microbiological data of patients with a clinical diagnosis of corneal ulcer at the microbiology laboratory of Vietnam National Eye Hospital from January 1, 2010 to March 31, 2023. We observed a seasonal pattern for fungal and microsporidial keratitis, with an annual peak in November, and an inverse relationship between fungal keratitis and inclement weather.

Composting and green technologies for remediation of phthalate (PAE)-contaminated soil: Current status and future perspectives.

Phthalate esters (PAEs) are hazardous organic compounds that are widely added to plastics to enhance their flexibility, temperature, and acidic tolerance. The increase in global consumption and the corresponding environmental pollution of PAEs has caused broad public concerns. As most PAEs accumulate in soil due to their high hydrophobicity, composting is a robust remediation technology for PAE-contaminated soil (efficiency 25%-100%), where microbial activity plays an important role.

During the composting process, nitrogen cycle plays an important role to the compost quality.

Enhanced Slow Sand Filtration for the Removal of Micropollutants from Groundwater.

Remote areas, where centralized water supply cannot reach, rely heavily on decentralized supply systems such as slow sand filters (SSFs). Groundwater used to be a reliable water source; yet, the advent of micropollutants (MPs) has raised concerns over its quality. In this study, an enhanced slow sand filtration utilizing graphene oxide (GO)-coated sand prepared via a simple thermal method was employed to remove two representative MPs, atrazine (ATZ) and atenolol (ATL), from real groundwater for drinking water treatment.
